Random Thought Thread

Damn I got dispatched to a possible.drunk driver 3 minutes prior to the sale and am just now finishing up. I missed it :( drunks always messing it up for me
Congrats to all the winners

I claimed spot # 10 and was going to assign it to another forumite, but I did not hear back from him so I revised my post as a proxy for you. I can not guarantee that it's going to fly since the other person may have already been contacted, but if he has not since I did not hear back and if OK with Jo the Machinist Jo the Machinist , you can have my spot and be invoked accordingly.

Thank you for the work which you do for the betterment and the safety of our communities

I'm a little sad that I won't be able to participate in today's sale. But I am travelling, and landing a spot with my phone would be a little too much of a challenge for me. Of course I would have just been proxying anyway, but I enjoy the thrill

im surprised to find that im as fast (and likely substantially faster once i get some practice) on my phone than i was on my desktop linux box on a decent cable connection. id encourage you to methodize it and give the phone a chance!

That brings back memories. The kids were supposed to do the work, but as usual the fathers did much of it. What amazed me was the cheating going on. Not by the kids, by the parents. The huge majority of the cars would finish within a foot of each other. One finished 5 feet ahead of all the others. The judges took a very close look at it. The father, a machinist at Delco, put tiny bearings in the wheels and replaced the nails with ground shafts. The mods were not visible from the outside, but when they spun the wheels, they kept going for a very long time with no wobble. The car was disqualified.

For those who don't know, this is the Pinewood Derby. The kit is usually something like this. The kit my son had didn't have shafts, just 4 nails.

Hopefully no one minds me throwing this up here in the random thoughts thread, but over on the traditional subforum I am hosting my annual memorial scout knife giveaway. I invite everyone to participate.

Also, I haven't updated the first entry yet, but some surprising generosity has made the knives that I will be giving away more exciting than the original offer (it will be multiple made in the USA knives!).
