Random Thought Thread

that's the same article I quoted. and I never said anything about the distance being what causes the seasons.

it's just odd to me that in the COLDEST time of year for the northern hemisphere, the earth is millions of miles closer to the sun.

I just find that sort of ''nonsense'' odd.

Just think about it. I really dont know why it matters to you if I'm wrong. ✌🤗
The radiation that planets get from the sun drops off with the square of the distance. Although the annual variation in distance seems large, it is small relatively speaking. It does result in a few percent increase in radiation when we are closer, which as you pointed out happens to coincide with winter in this hemisphere.

Having a helluva time figuring out what to get my woman. Here are a few cool inexpensive gift ideas I highly recommend. Olight obulbs. Ive got a bunch and they are super useful. Have gifted a many and I feel people geniunely love and use em. The mini Olantern is super neat too 👍

Those bulbs are awesome! And magnetic too.

I'm a big fan of Olight (another really bad rabbit hole). The Obulb is really convenient and the Olantern is perfect for when the power goes out. The only time I don't buy Olight is when it comes to weapon lights. Then it's Modlite for me.

I don't know why I even want to bother with this kinda nonsense in here any more, but here we are again dealing with one more misconception namely: In the summertime, the Earth should be nearer to the Sun.

"At first, this one appears reasonable. This misconception about what really drives the seasons, though, is what gives rise to this notion. The tilt of our orbital axis, not our distance from the Sun, is the cause. Our world actually spins on an axis that is slanted to one side. Summer is in that hemisphere when that axis is pointing toward the Sun. When it turns away, it’s winter. However, the notion that the Earth is occasionally closer to and occasionally further from the Sun is not a fallacy. The orbit of our planet is elliptical (like most other planets).

About 93 million miles is the stated astronomical unit between Earth and the Sun (150 million km). However, the distance decreases to 91.4 million miles (147 million km) during perihelion (Earth's closest point to the Sun) and increases to 94.5 million miles (147 million km) at aphelion (the farthest distance) (152 million km). As a result, as you can see, the distance between Earth and the Sun can shift by up to 3 million miles in a year (5 million km)."
And a moment's consideration about a spinning globe wirh a tilted axis, explains why the Northern Hemisphere has its Winter at the same time the Southern Hemisphere has its Summer, and vice versa.

But of course, if you've never been to Australia, the Southern Hemisphere could all be a hoax (sorry XtianAus XtianAus 😅)

My doctors suggested that I take the Covid, flu, and anti-shingles vaccines. I asked them to bring them to me unopened so I could read everything and see if they are made in China. They didn't bring them to me and forgot about it. No conspiracy theory... :)
Oh I think the COVID was made in Chin- oh the VACCINE? No, that was made in the US. 🤣
Something worth considering about ColoGuard;

Might want to check with your insurance provider, but a lot of them cover one colon test. If the ColoGuard test shows something questionable, you'll still have to get a colonoscopy, but if your insurance only covers one, the colonoscopy is considered a 2nd test, and may not be covered, as opposed to just getting the colonoscopy and having it covered.
Mayo is doing a research study on ColoGuard, we are heavily involved in Exact Sciences. I am renegotiating the budget we have for it now actually...

"Australians" are actually paid crisis actors, don cha know?

Gonna test the water in about a half hour and see if I can try lifting a little today. (Missed two weeks...and I'm getting antsy.)
Just worried about getting EIH (exercise induced headache) since I've had a lingering one with this Omicron crap for a while.

We shall see.

Started getting headaches August of last year. Brain burners along with burning skin on face and arms. Never had it before and would come and go like the wind. Thought it was Covid related but hadn’t officially had it yet and was maddening.
Went to drs and told me to go to PT and turns out it was from an old fracture in my neck and is now being held in check with the stretches from PT.
All that to say whatever the cause, headaches STINK!
Hope you can workout headache free.

Given your setup I would suggest a few minutes of easy rowing just to warm up and open your breathing. I used my air bike when recovering and it seemed to help.

I actually thought about that...but I didn't.

I did a full body workout, (although lighter), with kettlebells, sandbags and dumbbells. Made sure I didn't run up my pulse or breathing beyond a comfortable level...and actually felt pretty good. (Though I'm pretty sure I'll feel it tomorrow since I've been relatively inactive but for blowing off debris around the property.)

So far, so good. No headache.
