Unless the trashcan has an unusually shaped/deceptive lid, that looks like substantially more than 30cm/12".

What are the temperatures like? The arctic blast headed iur way looks like it's going to drop temperatures severely over just a 24 hour period.

the trash can don't lie. The truck bed was full to the brim
it's been down to around -5C and on average is probably close to -2C, but there's a north wind coming which might get things down to around-10C. Being so close to the ocean makes it feel colder than that, even without wind
the local grocery store was even shut today!
