Random Thought Thread

I read an article that said that Bengals QB Joe Burrow gave all his offensive linemen last year $126 Casio G-Shock watches . . . custom encrusted with 14 carats of diamonds.

WTH? To quote a movie line, that's like putting an elevator in an outhouse.

I'm not trying to diss Casio G-Shock watches. I own a couple myself and wear one of them quite a bit. I happen to think that some models of the G-Shock line (in particular the Casio G-Shock GWM5610-1) offer the greatest values one can find in a watch.

But hiring a jeweler to encrust a $126 battery-powered quartz watch with 14 carats of diamonds?? Wow.

Then again, I think some of the watches that Casio sells are insanely priced right off the shelf.

Like this one.

The Casio G-Shock MR-G Ayasugi Gassan 40th Anniversary Limited Edition MRGB2000GA-1. With an admittedly cool looking Damascus-steel-like bezel (at least cool to a knife knut like me).

Retail Price: $8000. No, that is not a typo. $8000. For a Casio.

I like watches as much or more than the next fellow. But wow.

That was the "8 G's-Shock" model.

I think if they are going to sell a quartz watch for $8000, then they at least ought to have the courtesy to offer up some story about how each knife includes recovered steel from the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, like at least one Master Smith does when he sells expensive knives with steel from Pearl Harbor and handles whose wood supposedly came from some tree that George Washington planted.

Don't send me an email saying that my item has shipped, when my item hasn't actually shipped at all. All that happened was that someone created a label for it, and that usually means it's still going to be anywhere from 1-5 days before my item actually ships. Notify me when the things actually effing ships, please.
