Aluminum rolling mill bottom backup roll. 40 tons.
I grind these to within a .0005 spec with a crown profile.

.0005? That is amazing. I was an apprentice tool and die maker for a couple of years in the early '60s. (I quit because I got tired of counting my fingers) . We were lucky to hold + or - .005" tolerances. Just before I quit the shop got a lathe with a led display. No one could get the thing to work and the company rep was there every day trying find out what was wrong with it.

They also had a Moore jig bore, but no one was allowed to use it. The boss was afraid that we might hurt it.

Wow thats cool to hear.
The smaller rolls are within. 0002"
Some flat, some with .001" crown.
Some concave. Some grinding machines I operate are old mechanical, some are cnc.we use a (pro-micrometer) electronic unit with wheels to measure the roll specs from end to end. It calculates taper and profile center. Its very challenging because the roll can't have feedlines, chatter, pattern.

I've been talking to Eric at Mashed Cat and he tells me a lot of folks are asking to use my MC as a template for his sheaths. I told him that I don't mind as long as he doesn't mark the knife up. So if you're in the market for an MC sheath, get in touch with Eric soon and he can square you away.

I'd be all over that if I had an MC. Since I don't, I'm hoping to horn in on any extra holstex he might have for my NMSFNO that's in his hands right now :D

I am one that asked Eric, thank you 91bravo.

For those of you who have asked about sheaths for the MC that 91Bravo has agreed to let me use for molding a few sheaths, here is some info.

I will do a very short run as soon as I can get the knife ready to press and 91Bravo material arrives for his sheath. This might be a couple weeks from now as I AM SWAMPED. Luckily it is for most of you who are waiting for the HDFK!!

When I get going on these I will make a post in the forum asking for you to send an email with sheath description and options.

Thanks!

Good on you Eric, thanks for touching bases with us CPK nuts!

This always happens to the good guys and Eric is one of the best.

91bravo 91bravo Jonny is there any discernible difference in the draw from a holstex sheath vs a kydex sheath in your experience? Provided all other factors the same, ex. both pancake style?

Not much difference if all other things are built equal. Holstex does seem a bit stiffer than kydex though, and plus, I like the CF look to it. Eric may do a 2-tone sheath for me if he has OD holstex in stock. OD holstex front and black holstex back, for right hand carry. I had some old esee knives with 2-tone holstex sheaths and I like them a lot!
