I will say, that aside from my Weimaraner, I always liked German Shorthaired Pointers.

They have a lot of commonality...aside from the obvious markings on the coat and the Weim being a bit larger. My guy was big for a Weim.

Here's a little guy whose image I grabbed off the web...

We had a GSP growing up named Belle. She was a wonderful dog, miss that lil pooch.

I have a feeling I've read them, Mat. (And, unfortunately, this our second go-round. The last was three months before we rescued Skyler ten years ago next month.)

We're not breaking any new ground, it's just our turn (again).

This was the last guy I shed tears over...

It definitely is a process and my heart truly goes out to you both. I can only speak for myself and although my own Livvie's tragic loss was not my first rodeo in the manner of speaking, that one however was my TOUGHEST experience going through the loss of a beloved dog. I didn't even want to look at another dog (and I'm a huge dog person!), I couldn't go out for walks because that dog had covered every square inch of the trails around here with me but no longer beside me, couldn't go to the beach, nothing, nada... Took a long time but the community in here helped as they cared about my very sad emotions. Paying it forward bud, just ask if / when you feel the need to :)

I won't lie...I cried more for Smoky than I ever did for anyone or anything. It took me a long time to get mostly over it...and I'm still not all the way there.

The funny thing is that Skyler spooked me and Tina in that she would do the exact same things in the exact same places in the house as Smoky.

Whether it was doing the "swim" on her back, kicking up couch cushions, sitting and waiting in a particular place or any of a hundred little mannerisms and actions. it was plain eerie. I always felt like he had sent her along to us and had given her the lay of the land before doing so.

It's like she had a guidebook.

So, speaking of dogs and "spooky" stuff. I had bought this bench stone from "Ragnar's Ragweed Forge" some years before the owner had passed away. Mostly because I thought it an attractive stone, and not because I thought it would be particularly useful for putting a finished edge on any of my knives.

Anyway, the images online did not prepare me for what I saw when I got the stone in the mail. I was like...WTF? I called my wife over and said, what do you see when you look at this stone?

She looked at it for a moment, then looked at me and said..."It's Smoky!" To this day we call it "Smoky's Stone".

Here's a few shots. It's hard to reproduce in images, but if you look carefully, you'll see his eye, ear, nose and muzzle. It's easier to pick up in person.

Blues Blues

This is Bowser the best dog I've ever had ... the day he was put down I still feel to this day was too late and it was my fault for being very greedy and not wanting to let him go

I'm curious about the comfort Timmy. Those look like cylinders with the corners knocked off. My ring is narrower and the inside has a radius toward the edges. I assumed I would have to try to do that if I tried making any from my chunk of damascus.
