Ok, so why is "Ultem" all the rage all of a sudden? Knife scales, lanyard beads, edc trinkets, etc.

It just looks like cheap, yellow-ish brown plastic to me - am I missing something?

some clown has a bunch to sell maybe because some .gov guy over bid a project and had to ditch a bunch of it

Well, at the risk of tarnishing my already lackluster reputation around here…. this isn’t quite “piss yellow”, but I thought that it would be fun. Ultem is supposed to be pretty durable and strong, though I haven’t verified it. It seems fairly light, at least in its thin configuration, here. It’s somewhat entertaining to see the limited guts of this knife, and seems a fun combination with this light, fidgety, little, Demko Shark Lock knife.

If it makes any of you feel any better, while fidgeting with this one to take this photo, I stuck my finger tip and drew some healthy drops of blood 🤣, but I’ll spare you the graphic. Mike

Ultem is a plastic created for it's high strength, chemical resistance, flame resistance, machinability, and ability to withstand high temperatures. The piss yellow is the natural color of the material without any dye. Other colors are available.

I really enjoy tactile turn's plastic pens. I have the ultem in your picture, their G10 pen, and their tecaform pen. They are machined well, are fun to fidget with, lightish, and use my favorite pilot refills. I fly regularly and the small amount of titanium in the internals doesnt set off airport metal detectors. I haven't tested it but I'd feel more confident shoving an ultem pen into someones juglar or eyeball over the stock pilot g2. I bought the pen because it's just a neat material, not everything has to be made out of titanium from a jet engine.

I applaud your courage in coming forward Mike - I'm sure it wasn't easy.

In fairness, maybe it's just the lighting, but yours looks more like 3-day old avocado.

Congrats to both you and your daughter, GmpaJim GmpaJim

A couple years before I became an LEO, I was walking with a couple of gals from my (non LEO) federal job to an after work bowling league we had going through the office.

We encountered a guy beating a woman in the street and whipping her with a belt. I ran up to the guy and told him if he wanted to fight someone, to fight me. I was probably lucky that he was a coward and said "I didn't hurt her" and other b.s. and quit his attack.

The girlfriend thereafter turns to me and says "It's a boyfriend, girlfriend thing...mind your business", to which I replied "You deserve one another".

As we walked away, Angie and Jeannie named themselves "Charlie's Angels"...and I decided that if I was going to be stupid enough to get involved in other people's business, I'd better get trained...and joined a dojo.

(Still not always a good decision to get involved...especially nowadays.)

Thanks - those are certainly compelling reasons.

In fairness, I'm a snob.

People have no idea.
My comeback is, take a GOOD class. It gets real in a hurry.
My last one was using air soft in a school, of all places.
Reality check 😵‍💫
I still remember how much simunitions and other wax bullets etc hurt during our SWAT training.

Chris Caracci laid an ambush for our team during a night entry at a concrete factory out in the Everglades. He got me in the forearm but I got him center mass. Afterward, he said "nice shot". I said "you may be a former SEAL, but I'm former Brooklyn. That's how we roll." We both had a good laugh.

Shit stings.
