Per dollar, a gallon of whole milk a day is the most efficient way to get adequate calories for building muscle. I dont know if I could do all that.
Way back, I used to eat a dozen eggs and 2 chickens per day….along with peanut butter, protein shakes, and rice. Crazy thinking about it now.

A guy I know who lives way up North eats about 5,000 calories per day in winter just to maintain his weight doing chores outside (brutal environment).

In the strongman/powerlifting world protein is always important as is calories. You’re definitely on point with the calorie consumption of those two guys. I aimed to average 10k a day weekdays and 15k a day on weekends. I was peaking 250+lbs at 6’2”
It was such a struggle to meet those eating goals

Hey, that's why they sell the whey protein. It's too expensive to buy a steak.

You can get as big as your dreams will take you. It's just gonna cost a serious amount of money on the diet. Of course you can do it cheap. Eggs. But a huge steak, I couldn't afford, would have been better.

The better the protein, the better result.

Pharmaceuticals help too. I know people who spend $2500/month for GH as well as T

You have to be out of your mind to pay the price (not in dollars) of what those drugs do to oneself.

I draw the line at whey protein and creatine. I understand why people take steroids, but I, like some of you here, have seen up close what happens to many of these folks.

No thanks.

While lots of meds and supplements are over-used/abused, they can also be life changers. So many celebrities use ‘regenerative medicine’ it is crazy. Boutique spa medicine is very profitable.

Lots of providers prescribe T in different forms. What I find interesting is how wide the range is for ‘normal’ values. Some providers are fine with prescribing doses to keep folks at the upper end, while some refuse to treat deficiencies at all.

One of my patients was very deficient and was depressed, had lost interest in his work/hobbies/wife, and was frustrated with inability to lose belly fat. His previous provider never checked any labs, and simply put him on antidepressants. Low dose T therapy was started after a thorough exam/history, checking comprehensive labs to rule out other causes. He actually cried talking with me about what a difference it made.

I was strict with replacement therapy, checking baseline labs and quarterly renal/liver function as well as weekly blood pressure in addition to T levels and PSA screenings.

GH is a whole other monster….yet $$$ can get prescriptions if enough.

Like most things, too much can be detrimental for sure.

I'm not talking about legit medical use of steroids and other drugs. Hell, I've even given them to my dogs.

We didn't do much in the way of getting involved in gym rat cases back when, except when large amounts of contraband were interdicted at the border, via international mail etc...then we tracked them to the distributors and dealers. Saw several lives completely ruined by those mutts.

Yes sir- I know exactly what you are talking about. I have also treated some nasty abscesses from injections.

I'm 5'11'' and weigh around 260 right now without really trying. I'm not necessarily fat but im not ''lean'' by any measure haha.

my only real goal every day is to make sure I get a good bit of non junk calories and a solid portion of those from protein.

it's tough when I forget to bring a lunch to work and essentially have to rely on ''gas station'' food from the lunchroom.

eggs too are a pretty economical source of calories when weightlifting. right now they're 1.09 a dozen. I have several cartons in the fridge and eat at least 6 a day.

BARELY ''not raw''... haha yum.

I also have struggled with the dreaded "gas station lunch"... can definitely wreck some good intentions!

Those tuna foil envelopes are pretty dang convenient to open, scarf down quickly with some water to chase it. I take them with me to the remote cabin for quick snacks in winter (summer I avoid smelly foods because we have lots of critters that are bigger than I am up there)🤣

Timmy:
With that build, please get in some Judo or Jiu-jitsu training to go along with your Karate. Super fun and useful, and you would be a tank!
