I drove a quarter way across the state and back today. 140 miles each way. Had to stop for fuel twice. The F-550 has a 40 ga tank.

I zeroed out the mileage meter for the way back. I averaged 5.3 on the return trip. Interstate. Mostly at or below the speed limit. Heavy and a V10 gasser = $$$

Looking forward to the new 6.7 when it finally comes in.

Damn, and here I thought the 15mpg or so around town I got in my 4runner was bad...

I’ll post some mileage pics while towing on Thursday.

Helping my boy move into his dorm this week. ‘Twas a long drive. Holed up at a hotel for the next couple of nights.

I brought the essentials.

Wow!!! 🤦

. . . & I thought I had it bad w/only 12-14 mpg in my 7.3L F250.

Looks like I should be thankful instead. 🙏

It is. That's bad. But there are levels to these things.

Oh, making things worse... I can't run 87 when I'm heavy. I need at least 90 so I have to mix in some 93 that costs even more $.

2 weeks ago we pulled a 4500 lb trailer with the RAM 150 1500 Longhorn and Hemi eTorque engine, from Colo Springs to Grand Lake CO over Berthoud Pass and back; and we averaged about 10 mpg for the whole trip. Normally the combined city/hwy mileage is about 19 mpg without towing (maybe 16-17 city and 23-26 mpg hwy). We started out with 89 octane, but filled up after that with 91 (33 gallon tank). (at high altitude our octane is about 2 points lower on each pumps sea-level)

Last year we pulled a 4000 lb trailer with RAM 1500 and averaged 11 mpg on a 600 mile round trip to Ridgeway Reservoir and back. Our Subaru Ascent pulling a similar 4000 lb trailer over 600 miles on the same trip in 2021 averaged 14 mpg. It's always getting 91 octane though since it's a turbo 4-banger.
