"It's a La Raza thing, ese"

My f250 has been in the shop for a couple weeks now. Hell, I think it's actually been broke down for over a month hasn't it?

I've been driving around in my son's Outback. Apart from being capable, comfortable, comparatively efficient, and completely reliable, I hate it. I mean I don't really hate it. What's to hate about it. It's not a Toyota. But I miss my stupid truck.

Blues Blues not sure you are familiar with George Barris, but when I was first learning my trade I worked at a shop and it was just me and the owner (who is a very well known painter/bodyman around here)

He did insurance work but loved doing any kind of custom work..... at one point I had a chance to work on a Barris car.... lead and all and seeing how they grafted parts from other cars was mind blowing..... one of my coolest work memories

I hate my daughter's Toyota Camry. I cannot articulate any rational reason why but every time I drive it I just hate it. It's a perfect little car.

Can't stand it
Sometimes vehicles are great but stir no emotions or have ‘no soul’ to really like them.

I have had 17 motorcycles but only loved a couple. My favorite was a 1980 Moto Guzzi SP1000. It wasn’t quick, wasn’t fast, was a little rough and moody at times, but I just loved that thing. Opposite ends was a BMW GS1150 that was pretty perfect and I just found boring, and a Honda CBR1000 that was so smooth at speed and handled so well I had no attachment to. I liked my Harleys but miss the old Guzzi which is hard to explain.

My bubba truck just took me and more lumber out to my cabin on a mud/water logged trail and back. The truck is old, slow, loud, uncomfortable….. and I love that thing! Knowing that my 25 yr old truck with 180,000 miles will go where I need to go without worrying about getting new scratches and then cruise down the highway while covered with mud just makes me happy.

My first 4 wheeled vehicle when I got back to the US was a 1953 Chevy truck with an actual bucket for a seat ( fun turning corners)🤣. Every time I see an early 50’s truck it brings back great memories, and I plan to get another (and maybe another Guzzi) when we leave AK.

No rhyme or reason sometimes with vehicles we put up with or like!

Barris was a super cool guy when I got to chat with him at the Grand National Roadster Show many years back.
Have you seen Chip Foose’s latest find on YouTube?
It’s a 53 Olds done by Barris that was tucked away in a garage 40+ years ago.

It occurred to me that my kids are riding the same carnival rides as I did. Not the same kinds of rides but, literally, machines that have been around since before I was born. These are machines built by men three or more generations prior. When I look at the carnies manning the rides and their silly, blameless carny faces and wonder if carnies are maintaining these machines and I wonder what I’d do if my kids got decapitated or impaled inside of a falling upside down car thingy I feel kind of like, huh.

It could be worse.

Tanto could be operating them.
