True story. At a hospital I worked at a long time ago, we would apply topical TAC (Tetracaine, Adrenaline, Cocaine) liquid to lacerations on kids or people who were likely to freak out with getting anesthetic injected prior to suturing. It worked really well most of the time numbing the site and causing no stinging sensation. Suddenly the medication quit working much of the time and a new pharmacist decided to do her own investigation as soon as she heard about the issue. Turned out that much of the prepared medication was missing the cocaine! Authorities were called and it was another pharmacist who was stealing it (along with some other drugs).
TAC was great in the pediatric ER, as long as they didn't have too much body surface area absorbing it.

am I alone in thinking that the transformation of media/news/journalism/opinion has made people complicit in the negative trajectory of the quality of their lives?

We talk about health, as in food- and that it's 'garbage in garbage out'. I understand that, it's just consequence in action, every day and every moment.

So why not consider health from the mental standpoint? Front and center, since we always seem to talk about it in hushed tones. Too easy, also, to just throw 'crazy' around and be like 'shit's crazy, huh'? 🤷‍♂️

We gotta start thinking about and talking about and confronting the fact that too many people's minds are constantly digesting the mental equivalent of a gas station hotdog.

Too many serious players spewing garbage- vitriol, hatred, fear; all the addictive hits. Give the masses their boogeymen, so they're so distracted by delusion that they can't see the reality that's staring them in the face- that they are being exploited.

The guillotine's time is coming, I predict. Eventually the veil is drawn, the people have suffered enough, and the Emperor is suddenly naked.
Do you want full mask off, boot on face governance by the CIA or do you want to keep pretending people have agency and news stories and votes matter. I think most people (especially with kids) prefer the second option.

Segments of the country have lost the internal strength to decide what’s best for them and STFU.
They need tribal back up. If you don’t agree with me, WE, will call you names.
This all started with, win or lose, everybody gets a trophy.
You never learn how to lose gracefully, or have strength to face an opposing opinion, or more importantly, analyze why you lost, or consider the opposition’s stance without a meltdown.

Ever have the “mercy rule” envoked at your high school game? To me, stopping the score count and showing a blank scoreboard is more embarrassing than seeing, 86 to 7.
We were getting crushed. Toward the end of the half, the PA system was playing random music. They played Journey, Don’t Stop Believing. The cheerleads started to sing, followed by the band, the team joined in as did the bleachers. We got pretty loud and I know I was off key.
The opponents just watched. It was one of the most powerful yet touching moments I’ve experienced.
No finger pointing, just learning how to embrace the suck.

I keep the kind impregnated in gauze, and typically it's used to pack the wound as you stated above, not wrap the wound. I think it's like $15 for a 3" x 24" strip in a foil pack, last I checked.
While the Quikclot/Celox gauze is made specifically for wound packing, I’ve used it a couple times simply as a dressing (not wrapping it around a laceration, but simply applying it over it, and using an OLAES bandage to hold it in place).

It’s been a while, but the last time was a 28 y/o guy with a pacemaker. What I got out of the GF, was that he’d had an infected tooth a few years prior, that he simply ignored, self medicating with ice packs and painkillers. What resulted, was a bacterial infection in his heart. By the time he collapsed, and wound up in the hospital, severe damage had been done.

He had a small wound in his ankle, and every time he took pressure off it, it would spurt blood 1-2 feet. He said he’d been trying to use pressure to stop the bleeding for 15-30 minutes, but it wouldn’t stop.

I ran out to my car to grab the IFAK, and used the Celox gauze for a pressure dressing. It stopped the bleeding within a few minutes. His foot was a color that a healthy person’s should never be (not pale, but the opposite. Way too dark and purplish for a white guy. GF said even with the 3 heart surgeries and the pacemaker, his circulation was permanently impaired).

He was on blood thinners, which was why the bleeding didn’t stop on its own. I don’t know if they went to the ER. Once the bleeding stopped, they assured me they’d be fine. I don’t think that guy is going to live to a ripe old age.

P.S.
Don’t ignore tooth pain/infections. The infection can introduce bacteria into the bloodstream, leading to serious issues.

I use CA glue all winter on cracked fingertips and around my nails. Seems like I'm always dealing with cracks and torn cuticles when it gets cold. Superglue ain't just for emergencies.
It’s not going to help fingernails, but I’m a huge fan of O’Keeffe’s Working Hands, and Night Treatment for skin and cuticles.

I haven’t found ANYTHING that works as well as O’Keeffe’s Night Treatment, and I’ve tried a bunch of them, from normal moisturizers, to things like SkinFix and Bag Balm.

A small amount of the Working Hands, absorbs very quickly without leaving a greasy residue within 2-3 minutes.

The Night Treatment DOES leave a greasy feeling, so I only use it before bedtime, but it restores dry, cracked skin like nothing else I’ve tried.

the former option is usually reserved for other poorer countries, but Canada is a little too wealthy and globally involved for the US to cause that to happen here for now.
The media ecosystem up here is heading toward dangerous territory, though. Not enough people vote- it's getting increasingly easy to convince people of their disenfranchisement, so I guess we'll see what we see.

I use a bunch of stuff for cracks/splits as well, and I really like Snowy Summit Devil’s Club Salve. It is amazing how irritating splits on fingertips are.

I think if the mask ever came off it would be by design and the ones formerly wearing the mask would find a way to have it benefit them or at least make it so that the plebs gain nothing from it.

I gave up watching, listening, or reading the "news" many, many years ago and I am better for it. My shields are up and little gets through.

Too many people are thinking someone else's thoughts and ideas and opinions.
