Thanks. I live 1.5 hours from the dealership and I didn’t want to get up there and have them not be able to replicate it. So that will help. I can just pull over and run it when the light is on.

It is my understanding that, these newer vehicles, even if the light is off the error code is recorded and if they have the right code reader they can retrieve it. The light does not need to be on for them to analyze it.

Yes.....

some codes even when erased still show when triggeredl
But that year gm will throw stupid codes in all honesty (I'm a gm fan)
A lot of these readers can be left on while running/driving the vehicle. You can get all kinds of stats in real time.

And probably unrelated - my old 6.5l Chevy had an intermittent check engine light. Took it to a shop after my reader gave me nothing to go on. They also failed to diagnose the cause. A friend of mine who was a mechanic at a Chevy dealership told me to get a new gas cap. I laughed because I thought he was joking. I replaced the gas cap (with OEM) and the problem went away. I hope you find a similarly, easy to fix solution.

I spent a lot of time on the duramax forum back then. Ended up getting a lot of good advice and fixing most problems myself.

My old Ford had the same issue and same solution. Gas tanks need to be sealed these days and the computer will throw a code when the seal fails.

Thanks. The fuel cap very well maybe the culprit. I read about that being a problem when it came on the first time. So, I tightened it up, the next time I went out there was no light on. Then the following time it came back on, but I had filled up in there somewhere. When I tightened it I only get one click and I was trying to remember if it used to keep clicking as I tried to tighten it more. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll probably just get a new oem fuel cap and try that.
