Hey all,

I was hoping to have some relationship advice. My wife is from Brazil and takes a lot of pride in Brazilian cheese bread (Pão de queijo), the savory sort that her mother bakes with so much pride.

However, I find myself craving Colombian sweet cheese bread. Sometimes I think of it while eating the Brazilian cheese bread. The other day, on my walk back from work, I stopped by a Colombian bakery and eyed the Pan de Bono, the gooey, warm, just sweet enough cheese bread that fills my soul. Temptation won, and I ate one on the walk back, but was foolish enough to leave one in the pantry. Surely enough, my wife found it…

She asked me if this is the Colombian cheese bread that I have spoken so highly of in the past. I acted on instinct and immediately said, “no, something someone brought to work. It’s okay.“ I think she saw right through me. We have a very honest relationship. I feel like I am living a lie.

How do I tell her that I like other cheese bread without hurting her feelings? Is there a world that we can both try having other types of cheese breads together?? The lust is killing me.

You never realize how much you take for granted until it's gone.

My microwave crapped out yesterday. It just stopped heating food. Tested the fuse, the thermostat, and the magnetron with a multimeter. No luck.
Disconnected the humidity sensor and tried heating food. No luck.

I ordered a cheap magnetron replacement. Going to try that before I run out and buy a new microwave.

It's been made very apparent how much we rely on that appliance since we can't use it right now. Pretty crazy!
Ours died last year and we just decided not to have one it’s the air fryer or stove.

While both Brazilian Pão de Queijo and Colombian Pandebono are cheese breads made with cassava flour, Pandebono incorporates cornmeal (masarepa) for a slightly different texture and flavor, while Pão de Queijo uses only cassava starch, resulting in a stretchier, more chewy texture.

Here's a more detailed comparison:

  • Ingredients:
    • Pão de Queijo: Primarily made with cassava starch (tapioca flour), cheese, eggs, and sometimes milk or oil.

    • Pandebono: Uses cassava starch (yuca flour), cornmeal (masarepa), cheese, eggs, and sometimes milk or oil.
    • Pão de Queijo: Known for its soft, chewy, and slightly gooey texture.

    • Pandebono: Has a slightly more airy and less dense texture due to the addition of cornmeal.

Gedankenexperiment: You have one wish from her for your next birthday: do you pick Colombian sweet cheese bread or something else?

If it's something else, get over it, eat her Brazilian bread. :)
