We call that a low humidity day down here.
Yeah, that wasn’t particularly high.We call that a low humidity day down here.
I’m interested to see how this works for you. I was very close to buying one similar but held off due to some reviews I read.Yeah, that wasn’t particularly high.
RH here fluctuates, but it was high 80s temp and 80+ to 90+ %RH a couple days ago.
As mentioned the plain neck fan just doesn’t do much, as blowing hot air doesn’t help that much, unless it’s dry enough to boost evaporative cooling.
Of note; I also have those evaporative cooling material hats and bandannas. Used the hat for sun protection as well, while using the neck cooler.
Soaking the hat in cold tap water then wringing it out and putting it on certainly felt nice and cold initially, but within a short span of time, it warmed up and no longer felt even cool.
Whatever cooling effect the hat was producing from any evaporative cooling was completely eclipsed by the nice cool (in comparison to ambient temps it felt cold) neck cooler, which remained cold the entire time I wore it.
In an earlier post, trying the plain old neck fan paired with one of those evaporative cooling bandannas around my neck; it made a difference, with the air blowing on the wet/damp bandanna, making it feel cooler, but the effect is nowhere as significant as the cooling plates in the Aice staying 20-30f colder than ambient temps.
I’ll see what the runtime is on the internal battery (some reviews say it takes a few drain-recharge cycles to see maximum runtimes), and how well it works running off the external powerbank (and if the powerbank I ordered is worth a darnI’m interested to see how this works for you. Preach it brother. It was a really hot day today. It got up into the mid 90's. It started to become a little uncomfortable, so I figured I would do something about it. I walked over to the thermostat and to my disbelief, it was 74 degrees. Those conditions are unbearable for a home office. If this thing has the ability to continuously stay cold for 8+ hours, it could make a big difference for folks who need to be in hot environments.
Looks more like ‘single snowflake in the South’ kinda thingOn another note, people know how to drive here, rain, snow, whatever happens ....

One day, I am going to ask a question about the reproductive cycle of Amazonian women, and B bluemax_1 is going to have an answerI’ll see what the runtime is on the internal battery (some reviews say it takes a few drain-recharge cycles to see maximum runtimes), and how well it works running off the external powerbank (and if the powerbank I ordered is worth a darn).

One thing to note is that neck size is a factor. As mentioned, the maximum effectiveness is when the cooling plates have decent contact with the neck over the jugular veins/carotid arteries (where you’d press your fingertips checking for a pulse). A neck significantly bigger or smaller, might affect the effectiveness.
Some of the negative reviews for this specific unit, made valid criticisms about the air that’s blown by this thing. I don’t know if the air IS any cooler than ambient, but I wouldn’t buy this if you want it to blow cold air on you. Even if the air was 5-10 degrees cooler, it didn’t feel noticeably better than the ~$30 plain neck fan. If you don’t/can’t keep the cooling plates in direct contact with your neck, this device won’t help much at all.
It’s one reason I opted for the Aice Lite Plus vs the Aice 3.
The more expensive Aice 3 has a 7,000mAh battery (vs the 6,000mAh Lite Plus), and it seems to have more features (that I don’t need, like HR, pulse-ox, touchscreen, blah blah blah… and claims to blow air that’s cooled 7-10f). Can’t seem to find info on how well one cools vs the other, but the Aice Lite Plus has 15,020mm2 surface area for the cooling plates vs 8,900mm2 for the Aice 3, and since I read that neither one will run all day on the internal battery on maximum cooling mode, I figured the larger cooling plates might make the bigger difference to me.
Another criticism I saw in some reviews, was weight. I’m the wrong person to ask about that. I’ve been training with a 140lb weighted vest every week, for several years. When I first got the vest (adjustable, by loading 3lb cast iron weights in the 46(?) individual pockets), I loaded it up to 60lbs to start, and that made my shoulders start aching after 5-10 minutes. Took a bit to get used to it (unlike a good, properly adjusted/sized backpack that puts ~2/3 of the weight on the hip belt, ALL the weight of the vest goes on the shoulders). Each time I added weight, it took my shoulders a few weeks to get used to it.
After ~5 years of using the weighted vest at the max loaded weight of 140lbs, I didn’t even notice the weight of any of these fans around my neck![]()
We joked about that, too. That seems a little excessive, but also remember, they have no means of de-icing bridges in the far South. No one wants their first experience with black ice to be at 65 MPH crossing a bridge!
Agreed, it was excessive. I once worked in Upstate NY and one day we had something like 2 feet of snow to clear and then drive to work, no delay, no snow day closure. Our Texas based headquarters closed the warehouse down there because the temperature dropped into the 40s!We joked about that, too.
While we understand that most folks down there don’t have snow-rated all weather tires, and the city doesn’t have snowplows and salt trucks, Northerners at least understand that you can look at the weather forecast, see that the daytime temperatures will be warm enough to melt the light dusting of snow even in the shade, and know that the light dusting (that won’t really even be much of a traction issue) will be gone by noon.
Sure, close the highways in the morning out of an abundance of caution, but by the afternoon, it should’ve been obvious that the highways were already completely clear and dry.
Keeping them closed for the weekend just inconvenienced the locals for no real benefit. Just another example of governmental inefficiency, I guess.
Reminds me of my first trip to Disney World after moving to MI.It used to blow my mind how the northern kids would wear shorts and a Tee while waiting for the bus and us southern boys were wearing pants and jackets
But then during the summer we're out there playing and having a good time and they're literally dying of the heat
And then there was my brother Jonathan who seemed to be immune to all of it
