Definitely never seen it glob up like that inside the trunk, only out of wounds. I usually look for larger lower branches that snapped off long ago. Can often find 4-6" long pieces 2" diameter that are damn near solid resin all the way through. Old stumps occasionally, too, but not as often or consistent.

I’m right there with you Nathan, this is what my wife left on the dining room table this morning. Reservation at Black Angus for 4:30 this afternoon.
