I'll never forget a soccer game I went to a few years back. We had to park quite a fair distance from the stadium and once we got there, we had to stand in line to go through security. I didn't think anything of it as I thought I had done my due diligence and was not carrying a pistol per their rules.

I stepped up, emptied my pockets, and the lady who was supervising me said, "No weapons!". I was flummoxed and said, "Excuse me?". She pointed at the tiny slipjoint that I had put in the tray, a GEC that was under 3", and repeated, "No weapons!". I couldn't believe it! I picked it up and asked her, "You think this is a weapon?!". Again, she said, "No weapons", pointed at their sign and then a nearby garbage can, "You can throw it away there".

I said, "Nope", kissed my wife, and headed back to our car to put it away. I understand that it's easier for folks in those positions to maintain a very black & white approach to these kinds of security measures, but I'm still puzzled at how someone could look at "grandpa's little pocketknife" and think it a weapon.
Haha we took the old park at a place and ride a bus to the place.

My wife dropped us off at the park and ride. It's miles from my home.

It would have sucked to have to make the decision to not throw away my knife. But that's the decision that I would have made.

Soooooo

We took a vacation to NYC once a long time ago....

I kept a manix 2 on me at that time..... carried it until I seen the metal detectors when we were about to enter the empire state building......

So I did what any man would do...................... I waited till my wife wasn't paying attention and slipped my knife into her purse right before the metal detectors

Welp alarms went off... my wife gave me the dirtiest of dirty looks (of course I claimed the knife was mine at that point) and one of the people working the metal detectors looked right at me and said "from out of town?" I replied "yes"

She responded "I don't blame you" and gave me the option to give them my folder or wait outside and keep it.......

When my wife was over being mad at me ......I got to see some cool empire state building pictures hahahahahaha

Speaking of metal detectors, has anyone recently flown with knives in your checked bag? Headed on a trip in a few weeks and thinking about bringing one. Haven’t flown with a knife in a decade or so. Interested in opinions.
Unless the blade is illegal in the destination state, shouldn't be a problem. Have faced no issues.

I caved once and dumped a folder into a locked "surrender box" at an MLB game. I was an intern going for a company event and was in line with a couple of partners, so I wasn't in a position to walk 4 blocks back to a parking garage to put my knife in one of the partner's cars. It was just a little folding caping knife from Knives of Alaska (neat little slicer), but it stuck in my craw: a Texan, carrying a knife made by Texans in Texas, to a Texas team's game in Texas, shouldn't have to dump his pocketknife. So, I found a perfect solution to avoid that ever happening again: I don't go to any sporting events, ever.

Went to see 2Cellos in Chicago. Found a hotel that was just a couple blocks away, so we walked.

Dammit. Saw the metal detectors. Had my usual SwissChamp XLT, and a Zero Tolerance.

Asked them if they could hold them for me to pick up after the show. They said, “Sorry. Either leave it in your vehicle, or you lose them”.

I said, “I’ll be back”, then I stole a cop car and rammed it through the front doors. Oh wait… confused that with something else 😁

Didn’t feel like running two blocks back to the hotel, and then back again, so I walked outside and looked around for somewhere to stash the knives.

Hmmm… they have those big trash receptacles that are cemented in place, with doors that have a lock for access to remove the contractor sized bags. Reached in the opening and felt around. It had a plastic bin that the bag goes into. Shoved the two knives in the back between the bin and back of the concrete receptacle, hoping that even if somehow, they came and removed the trash during the show (at night), they wouldn’t find the knives, and they wouldn’t get tossed with the trash.

After the concert (fun show), we headed over to the trash receptacle. She said, “You tossed them in the trash?”. I said, “Sort of”.

Did I ever mention how lock picking is a really useful hobby/skill? Those little locks are really easy to pick.

Yep. The knives were still there. Good thing, or it would’ve doubled the price of the trip 😅

She said, “Ohhh… you jammed them behind the bin, so even if someone removed the bag, they wouldn’t get thrown out…”. “Yep”.

Yup I got sent back to the car for a folder at a county fair and apple festival in my backwoods county. I was shocked. It was an apple festival. How are people supposed to cut apples. If we can carry them everywhere else in public and usually not stab people why would it be any different at a county fair and apple festival. Also my dad ran a marathon that ended on a military base in San Diego and I was already running late. They refused me entry with a pocket knife, which makes a little more sense, but I just stashed it in some bushes and got it back afterwards. I had to go through a metal detector to go into the social security office when my wife was changing her name after marriage. I guess things get heated in there.

I've done that a few times before: shoved a folder deep in the middle of a clump of tall grass in landscaping near the entrance to an event, then fluffed up the grass a bit around it. Worked like a charm each time. Silly to me that I could carry a pocketknife all around college campus with nary a restriction (dorms, lecture halls and all) but had to pass a metal detector to enter the basketball arena for a graduation ceremony. So it goes.
