how do you guys feel about tarrifs? Is it one of those things where people don't mind paying the 35% or whatever it is if you know it's going back into your gov't? Like a patriotic thing?

The reason I ask is that unless I apply for an exemption under CUSMA, I'll have to add 35% to the price for my work in order to pay the import tax into the US. I'm pretty sure my work is exempt, but if it's not, would you have a problem with paying an additional $175 on a $500 knife if you knew that the US gov't was gonna use that money to pay down the national debt or whatever it was gonna be used for?

There are a number of countries suspending mail service to the US because of the cancellation of the de minimis exemption altogether- fortunately Canada is not one of them. It's just not clear to me yet whether or not I have to charge my US peeps for the import tax, (which I have to pay when I ship my stuff).

In a free market economy tariffs are dumb. In a (global) economy where every teapot despot has their thumb on the scale, it's still dumb but it's a tool that might help counterbalance all those extra damn thumbs.
I have... reservations about the current application that I assume you are alluding to.

Yeah, screw this tariff noise! Just ordered some green coffee, and as if prices weren’t already up enough, there’s now a flat 10% extra being tacked on some origins. :poop: 🤬

Can you imagine when your $200k cargo container of coffee from Africa hits the Oakland port, and to get said container released you had to pay an extra $20k that you didn’t have to pay yesterday? Yeah. 🤨

There should be a tariff for calling knife sheaths “pants”!

This has to be one of the most ridiculous things I read daily on BF. Is it the equivalent of car forum guys saying they got new “shoes” (wheels or tires) for their cars - no clue but that’s equally mind dumbing.

You know, I can respect that. I have similar triggers. Grown men that call fixed blades ‘fixies’, or Westinghouse micarta ‘westy’.

I’ll go back and edit my post.

I will now expect everyone else to go back through their posts and remove ‘fixie’ and ‘westy’.

Sorry, Nathan. Nothing but time will work against the smell ....

I remember our previous generation of 3 dogs, a Mastiff, a Dane and a (female) Rotti.

One morning, they went out and the Rotti got skunked. I took her into the shower, washed her, dried her off, she came out all real nice and fluffy. Me on the other hand, was more stinky than before ....

Then we let her out again. And the skunk was still there .... and she was skunked again, a 2nd time!

Showered her again and then had to go to work. I remember, at the work coffee shop, I had to ask the Barrista (who I knew well) if I smelled like Skunk. She came close and said I was fine, but I had the stink in my nose for more than a week, anyways.

A few months later, early in the morning, we let the 3 dogs out as usual. They immediately sprinted to a corner of the property - another skunk they knew about - I didn't. The skunk was dead before it could do anything ...

Later, we found out that our neighbor was feeding Skunks regularly.

Roland.

Yeah, that stuff works okay, but the best results I’ve had were with Dawn dish soap, a cup or so of baking soda, and a whole bottle of hydrogen peroxide in warm water. Nothing removes it entirely, like ferider ferider says, but it’ll knock it back pretty good.

Not one of my dogs ever learned their lesson with skunks. Repeat offenders. Even the smart ones. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I could almost accept it with the dumb ones, because they were TRULY stupid. My bullmastiff was among the dumbest animals I’ve ever seen. Staggeringly stupid dog.
