I was not a fan of Charlie Kirk; he was someone I tuned out with the hope that I could revisit him in 20 years and see if life and experience would temper him some. Now, we will never know, and that is a damned tragedy. That's all I will say about that. His assassination is horrific, and I am heartbroken for his young family. With the advent of social media and cameras in every hand, my daughter ended up seeing his uncensored execution at school yesterday. Seriously, what in the actual @#$%?! Think of his kids, his wife, his family and friends being exposed to that. They have all been robbed of a husband, father, and friend and it's all on display. It makes my blood boil a wee bit.

Despite our current climate, as volatile and partisan as it is, I am still an advocate for temperance. Hot heads lead to rash and regretful words and actions. I have a hard time understanding the logic behind perpetrators of political violence; the results rarely align with their intended effect. A somber time for our nation, for sure.

Check in on your families, your kids, or if nothing else, call a friend or relative and check in on them; it might make a world of difference.

Never followed/paid attention to him, but it’s appalling that some people think that murder/assassination is an option for someone who mainly seemed to want to discuss/debate topics and issues.

It’s equally (or perhaps even more) appalling, to see how many people appear to be cheering/celebrating an assassination, because the victim thought differently on certain topics.

I've never heard of him until yesterday

a couple legislators in Minnesota were assassinated a few weeks ago. I try not to follow US politics much, but it sure seems like things are starting to boil over down there.
stay safe ya'll!!!

You strip everything away - ideology, political alignment, etc., and you are simply left with an individual who was murdered for exercising his constitutional right to free speech. If that doesn't bother someone, regardless of where they align, that's a problem, and we should be very concerned.

I am, to put it lamely, an equal opportunity consumer of media. I read news from just about any outlet, regardless of their slant. I do so to avoid feeding into my bias (which we all innately have) as much as possible. If your ideals and philosophies are not challenged regularly, then they grow stale, and you do not continue to grow and mature on a personal level. All that to say, to your second point, this isn't a one-sided affair, and political violence and its celebrants are not the purview of just a single lane. History, recent history even, shows us the unfortunate and uncomfortable truth in that regard.

But yes, celebrating anyone's death for having views that oppose your own, is disgusting, dangerous, and irresponsible, to say the least.
