Any of you guys have young kids in school? How do you deal with what they are teaching them now? My son’s 8 and in second grade and I’m about three seconds from pulling him out of school.
We homeschool. There are a ton of sacrifices we make due to only having my one income but hopefully the kids will be smart enough to not want to chop their genitalia to bits long enough to reproduce.

Maybe even take care of me when im way too old to know better who knows? I sure won't know what the eff is going on.

I was surprised to read that YKK is a 6 BILLION dollar company!!

Zippers were the thing that made me appreciate mechanical design. Really.

When I was a kid I had a zipper burst on a jacket and was putting it back on-track. It was the first time I actually looked at a zipper, and ended up playing with it for a long time, working out how forces and anchors interacted to manipulate the teeth. I found a book in the library with some (mostly incorrect, I later found) history of the zipper. That and related minor obsessions about objects made me appreciate how much cleverness, time, experimentation and plain old bloody-minded determination goes in to simple objects we take for granted.

Considering what I do to them, I'm still a bit amazed zippers work as well as they do.

Yeah! Pretty interesting innovation.

They make the best zippers

Zippers are frequently the weak link on a lot of products

Give me the choice between something with an off-brand or with a YKK I will always go YKK. Coat, boots, tent, whatever. YKK

I picked up 5 of my bags and pouches (which I believe to be quality). All had YKK zippers.

Magpul, Mystery Ranch, Nutsac brands.

We're planning on home schooling. They're are lots of resources for programs and curriculums online.

I've heard of groups of like minded people pooling resources to hire a tutor and having them teach their kids in a group, alternating locations between homes each week.
