Random Thought Thread

I read the first post, and then a few comments. Why even bother to respond to any of it?

I don't have time for that.

Good news, bad news type of a deal! CPK is being mentioned and represented very well and deservedly so, but instead of being rep'd by your regular groupies, it's being honorably mentioned by some CPK'ers a degree or two removed from the CPK denizens. This is commercially great for CPK although it leads to the bad news for the rest of us old timers (only some, clearly not CataD) who used to reign supreme during the less heady days of Fridays Sales. But hey, that's how it goes with fame and glory. I rather see your Kids have expensive things like braces and college fund$ taken care of instead of old(ish) pharts like yours truly consistently gloating on every other Friday or so... Something like that!

Man, that sucks! Hard hit to chain 3 vehicles!

One thing I've learned to do (wouldn't have helped you. The last guy in line has to do it), is to turn my hazards on anytime traffic slows more than 10-15 mph below the average cruising speed.

People are simply too inattentive these days and I've watched too many drivers run almost up my bumper, not noticing until the last minute, that traffic has slowed/stopped (and a few that would have hit hard if they hadn't veered off onto the breakdown lane).

Since using my hazards this way, I haven't had anymore close calls like that (and noticed that the driver behind tends to follow suit with their hazards). Once there's another vehicle behind me, I turn mine off (I don't keep driving along with them on).

Ohhh man that just sucks !!! Sorry for your troubles, accidents are just a PIA !!!!
I know your pain , just a couple years ago. A person pulled out right in front of my friend and I. He had no where to go and we collided ! His car was totaled and we both took a hit. Then last winter I went to the movies. The show was right before snow was coming in. We came out of the movies only to find my pass front corner of truck stoved in !!! Person just drove away, no note, no nothing !! I had to wrap a chain to bumper to a tree in parking lot and pull it off my tire to drive. Just me venting over automobiles and accidents lol.

I hope you or anyone wasn’t hurt. And hopefully your vehicle wasnt badly damaged.

This has been a 'rule/practice' for many tens of years in Europe, not sure if you knew ;). The large majority of Europeans do this...
Also, in the last 10-15 years, car manufacturers are required to 'program' the hazards lights to turn on automatically when the car suddenly decelerates. Most (if not all) of the cars made in/for European countries have this as a safety standard.

There are many other 'unofficial' rules that drivers in Europe follow; have not seen much of these in NA or other Continents... I do hope that some of these habits become the norm.

Cheers,
C.

I always do this as well, I drove in Europe for years where this is common, along with s rear facing fog light which is also rare in NA.

Ah that sucks. Hope you were able to fix the truck reasonably inexpensive.

The car has been looked at briefly and I’ve been told 99% likely it’s a total loss. So I’ll lose about 20k on it.

Sorry to hear about the car, that just sucks.

Yeah I was lucky that it was my beater Rover. The damage is still there. I bent most of it back using a porta power, and a 2x4 & hammers. I look at it this way, it’s easier now using it to take the dog into the woods off-road :-)

I think that might've been where I got the idea. Haven't been over there in ages, but a couple of things I noticed were that, and in general, people tend to check before changing lanes (especially on the Autobahn, with sections where someone may be passing at 50+km/h faster).

After too many close calls here, I decided to start doing that years ago, and it seems to be working.
