Random Thought Thread

Do many CPK’ers in here buy or lease new cars? Do you folks want me to start a thread in here for the good CPK folks as to what to do and what not to do ala an insider kinda tips of how to?

I can not say much more about buying / selling used cars as I assume that pretty much many in here have some good experiences with that paradigm staring with good research and to not be a dummy, but buying or leasing new vehicles has some more nuances to master.

I will monitor the popularity of this post before I write a War and Peace type of essay in a new thread. Admittedly, I blabber on a lot but I rarely create threads. I’m needy but not that needy :D (Nathan knows what I’m saying).

I just bought a '18 Tacoma on year end close out and I got it for a steal. The perks of buying from the same salesman and same dealership for the last 30 years.

Grats! I had a 2017 Pro but sold it in 2018. Was killing me on fuel. I hope you have a shorter commute and it serves you well for years to come!

Thanks, I drive about 35 miles one way to work. This is my 5th Toyota 4x4. I've gotten at least 300K out of each one and over 400K on my first one, which was an '88. It's all I've ever owned, with the odd cars thrown in here and there.

I like Tacoma trucks.

Yes having established a long term working relationship helps but it can also be a double edge sword because of perceived established trust.

The chances are that I can walk into your family dealership and get as good or even dare I say a better deal than the one you got but the big difference will be that if I do not manage to make a deal I may get unceremoniously booted out but you will most likely get the much better treatment. Remember that unless you actually own that car dealership, every single deal stands on its own singular merit.

... This is commercially great for CPK although it leads to the bad news for the rest of us old timers (only some, clearly not CataD) who used to reign supreme during the less heady days of Fridays Sales. ...

Haha, just noticed this :p.

....

I'd be interested ;)!

Cheers,

I can tell you that my family has gotten vehicles for cheaper than any other dealership for a 150 miles around. So we don't even bother looking anywhere else anymore. Jeannie wants a 4runner and around this time next year, guess where we're going to get one? Sometimes it's not what you pay, but the whole buying experience, that keeps you coming back.

I have about the same situation ... have dealt with the same dealership and the owner so many years ... (since I was in high school) ...he always gives me quite a bit better trade in value and sells at a bit lower than any other dealership I have ever attempted to get the same vehicles ...

small town loyal customers and a handshake still goes a long way there ... I'll hate to see him ever close.

You have a competitive nature, I get that. What I will have to say may not benefit you at all because it all seems to be baked into the cake and that's fine. Yes, the whole pleasurable buying experience matters as opposed to being jerked around from the salesman's office to the sales manager's to the F&I, blah. If you feel that you are being treated fairly, mooching and aggressively haggling to save a few $dollar$ here and there doesn't compute, that notion we will agree on.

That's the way we are down here. A handshake still means your word. And a man is only as good as his word...

Oh don't get me wrong, it's always my dad and I doing the haggling. It's a team effort, we've done it for so long now!

Dibs!

Jo, if there're any TTs left or there will be some more coming in I would like to keep my spot. I'm going with TT from here on out with the user CPKs. However if you do not see any forthcoming in any reasonable amount of time, I will forego my spot and pass it down the line to someone who can choose from what's already available.

I am sorry but I read the avail handle scales options after the click-click-boom or else I'd still be reading :D

Sorry if I'm missing the obvious, but what does "TT" mean?
