Random Thought Thread

Told our stone guy yesterday where not to cut the sinks out of the two slabs for kitchen and bathroom counters, if at all possible :)

Are you saving that for k20 handle material?

I didn't think I was ready for the new favorite youtube video.

But here it is. .. ....

I gotta say I'm feeling pretty good about my life right now.

My 48th birthday was on the 28th of this month. It won’t soon be forgotten. I was working in the woods as I do on most days, and a limb from a tree came down and struck me in the head and face. I was wearing a helmet which probably saved my life. My wife went back to the scene and found it mangled along with my bloody DEK1 that I had been pocket carrying. I was alone out there when it happened except for my dogs that I had tied up far away to keep them out of harm’s way. I didn’t know what happened at the time. I knew I watched the tree I was working on land safely where it was supposed to. I was down in a ravine. I convinced myself to get to my saw a turn it off, then climb out. I did and I got back to a side by side. I got my dogs and drove home. When I got home I realized the severity. I had to be airlifted out. I had multiple skull and face fractures. The response teams were great. They airlifted me to a hospital that is a 5 hour drive from my house. I’m back home recovering now. I’m really thankful for the responders and my wife and my personal support group. So after it was all settled and I got back home my wife went and checked out the scene and it seems that it was a limb from a tree nearby that was partially rotten and was disturbed by my work in the area and came down and got me.

Glad that it ended ok and I hope you heal up quickly and fully.

You are a lucky man, seriously hurt and still kept your wits about you to get yourself and dogs to safety. So glad you will recover! Folks take safety gear lightly- it will literally save your life.

This story hits home for me as I got knocked out by a falling widowmaker limb while felling a tree.

Edited to add Happy Birthday!

Wow! So glad you are (mostly) okay now. Trees are like the sea, beautiful and dangerous. After wind storms and hurricanes down here, I always keep a wary eye on those widow-maker branches.

I'm glad you made it out ok...

Even when I think I know what I'm doing with downing trees, it's still just really a bad idea.
I've been good, and lucky.

Everyone be careful

Holy crap, man. So glad you're ok. And I hope you have a smooth recovery. Having been in a similar situation (though not tree cutting), waking up on a hillside, having no idea how I made it from there to the bottom of the mountain and then having to be taken to the ER with fractures, dislocations, torn ligaments and serious abrasions, I can empathize.

I've had branches fall and land on me but never anything close to that...not at all.

I have been hit in the orbital with a baseball bat as a youngster...that rocked my world for a bit, hit on the head with a thrown rock and also dropped on my head. (All separate occasions.)

So, now you guys know why...
