I don't even care about that, it's just maddening that they get rid of all their good fixed blades.
They have always been pretty open about why the discontinue knives. In almost every case it's due to low sales. Basically, if you like it, buy it right then because it may not be around tomorrow. Or pay the price on the secondary market.

Glad I got one of the Phil Wilson Sprigs while they were still available. Good bird and trout knife, but it’s mostly used in the kitchen as a paring/utility knife.

Random thought;

How many suckers subscribers do services like Instacart need, to offset the cheap a-holes frugal shoppers like me, to stay profitable?

I signed up for their free trial years ago, where they offered promos like $20 off a $40 dollar order, $40 off an $80 dollar order etc. during the trial period.

Placed orders to take advantage of the offer, then canceled the subscription right before the free trial period ended.

Ever since then, they keep sending me similar offers every few weeks ($20 off orders of $40 or more, $40 off $80 or more etc.).

I ignore any of the offers that are less than 40-50% off, but usually take advantage of the ones that offer half off my order (and I always size the order to juuust hit the minimum qualifying amount, to get as close to 50% off as possible). Obviously, they’re trying to entice me to subscribe to the service, but they allow me to take advantage of these email offers without subscribing, and as mentioned, they’re sending these offers weekly, with the 40-50% off the next 2 orders, showing up at least once or twice a month.

The discount is off the store prices, and even on sale, I don’t ever see prices this cheap (after the discounts) in the stores.

On occasion, I’ve even gotten more than 50% off, because they didn’t write the software very well. Eg. With $40 off an order of $80 or more, I placed an order for ~10 of one thing and 10 of another, that totaled ~$82, so the cart immediately applied the $40 off, but I also selected “No substitutes”, since I only wanted those specific items and not whatever they thought was close enough.

Turns out the store that filled the order didn’t have the quantities I ordered, so I was refunded the amount for the items that weren’t available/fulfilled, but that $40 off was already applied to the order, so instead of paying $42 on an $82 order, I wound up paying $20 on a ~$60 order after the refund. I’m not enough of a cheap a-hole frugal shopper to deliberately take advantage of this loophole, but I can’t resist having groceries delivered to me for half the price it would cost to go buy them in store.

Been doing this for years, since first signing up for the promo trial (and canceling it). I guess the service must make enough off people who eventually pay for the subscription, to offset people like me, since they’re still around.

That's impressive

Go ahead and try it. 1/2 off groceries you already buy, is a great deal. No idea how they can continue doing things this way, but as mentioned, they’re still around, and still sending me these offers regularly, despite me never having paid for a subscription, since I canceled just before the free trial ended.

Just placed an order yesterday, because I received another of those “$40 off each order of $80 or more, for your next 2 orders”, and even after adding a tip for the delivery driver, the total, delivered to my door, was substantially less than buying the stuff in the store (which I happened to also go to yesterday. The delivery happened to get dropped off literally a couple of minutes before I got home from the store😅).

I'm going to rewrite the "Myth of Sisyphus" but instead of rolling a boulder up a mountain, Sisyphus will be equipped with a leaf blower and once he gets a pile of leaves amassed, the winds will blow them asunder.

Hell is other people wasted effort. - Sartre (probably)

(Camus is not amused.)

Yep.

Used the leaf blower twice last week. Then we got our first snowfall over the weekend. Melted away yesterday.

Looked at the leaves. Looked at the wind. Nope. I’ll wait til the wind dies down 😅
