I'm making a basic assumption that the Mori has a sophisticated VFD, and you have worked out the tuning/configuration of ramp rates and power limiting factors.
So I asked around and found some information about modifying the drive parameters and have modified the accel to 1/4th, which slowed the ramp rate down to about that of the other machines in the shop. It takes a few seconds to hit 14,000 RPM, but it doesn't dim the lights anymore.
Really, really happy for you that you were able to overcome the problem so quickly, bet ur one happy(ier) guy now...!
There was also the problem with the RS232 setup (which I've done a dozen times before without any trouble) and modifying the chip conveyer to attach to (and dump from) the other side. And there was some runout in the spindle taper from uneven wear due to a misadjusted tool changer that required dusting a few tenths from the spindle taper (now measuring .0004" at the end of a longass test bar). It is a used low hour machine (new it cost as much as my house) so it needed some love, but everything works extremely well now. This Mori is literally the highest performance machine tool I've ever operated (or even been in the same room as) so I'm pretty stoked about getting it into production. We're about there with it now, I'm setting it up to start tomorrow.
Where is Uncle Matty? Maybe he is roughing it with no Internet Connection

Such a blindingly obvious solution! This went so far above my head you could fit several galaxies in the gap. There was also the problem with the RS232 setup (which I've done a dozen times before without any trouble) and modifying the chip conveyer to attach to (and dump from) the other side. Crap...I'll fix them...forget you saw that please...nothing to see here.
Whoohoo!Working now, no problem.
Woohoo!!!Got the new Mori into production today. It's first task is trimming out the Medium Choppers, going to get a bunch of those out to heat treat this week. Once we get that operation caught up I have a special project for it.
*Bottle pops!Woohoo!!!
