…or… one dealer is sticking it to me with no lube (for engine lube 😂).

Toyota regularly has a chainwide 25% off Toyota Parts Sale, BUT the pre-discount prices are NOT the same at different Toyota dealers.

I’ve taken to ordering from Fred Anderson Toyota in NC, because they generally have the best total price (free shipping with $75+, and somehow, they always add other discounts, so the total winds up MORE than 25% off. Don’t ask me how that works. It’s happened with every order so far).

Mentioned it before, but I now have a stash of the full synthetic 0w16 Toyota oil (UOAs and VOAs confirm it’s not be of the best 0w16 formulations available. Funny thing, the ‘complementary Toyota oil changes at the dealer don’t use it. They use whatever cheaper bulk 0w16 oil they can source), and the filters. Prices shipped to my door came to $4.xx/qt and $2.xx per filter from Fred Anderson 😮.

With the Rhino Ramps Max, and the Valvomax quick drain valve, I can actually do my own oil changes faster than the Quick Change drive-in oil change places, while saving a bunch of money, knowing that it’s done right, and using the top oil available, with OEM filters from a Toyota dealership, so I don’t have to worry about knockoffs.

That

Sir

Is awesome

Ah… makeup. Even back in HS, we began calling those ‘Decepticons’ 😂

Dude, my brother made a baby in China

So I have a made in China nephew

And the pictures of this girl were fantastic. I mean she was amazing.

But, when I saw her in person, she looked a little different.

Considering that there are a lot of Toyotas running around with 300,000+ to 500,000+ miles on 0w16, they seem to have some idea of what they’re doing.
My '99 4Runner is still humming along nicely at almost 280,000 miles on 5w-30. Synthetic since I bought it in '03. Had the valve covers off last year, and I was pretty amazed how good the top-end internals looked. Key is regular OCI's.

Did she say that you and your brother looked alike? Because that would have been a perfect opportunity to ask if she thought all Americans looked alike...

Oh, I did.

Chinese people are not easily offended.

They're really chill, thoughtful, moderate people unaffected by the "woke mind virus" affecting a lot of Americans who would enjoy being offended on her behalf.

The Chinese people are pretty awesome. The ones I know are really cool. And, while I think some of their food is weird, she pointed out (accurately) that eating cheese is pretty fucked up.

I like the Shell Rotella T6 for my trucks, tractor, generators, forklifts etc. If it's diesel, it's getting some flavor of T6.
If it seems to be working well, go for it, but you might want to look into “Shell Rotella foaming”. Their anti-foaming additive pack seems to be somewhat lacking compared to their competition (Delvac, Delo etc), and foam is a poor lubricant.

The Toyota oil has a bunch of molybdenum added compared to standard Mobile 1. People get great engine life out of plain Mobile 1 but fans say the Toyota oil runs quieter too. Being cheap I just bought the Mobile 1 on sale at the auto parts store.
Molybdenum dithiocarbamate is a really good boundary/extreme pressure lubricant.

Back when I was still involved in racing, I was talking to one of the tribologists who formulated Motul 300V, and the battery of tests they performed, which led to the formula. Fascinating conversation. We used it for the track cars, and UOAs were excellent (it had one of the highest moly levels, in performance/racing oils).

It’s expensive, though, and Redline (while not cheap), costs less and also exhibits excellent shear stability and low wear on tracked cars (at the time, Royal Purple was another popular brand. Tested their oil in one of the cars, and the oil showed permanent viscosity shear very quickly 😬. No idea if anything had changed with their formulations since then; late 90s).

I’ve put 190,000 on mine, and the engine still purrs like a kitten, and has zero oil consumption. Dipstick level stays consistent through the 5,000 mile OCIs I run. Never needed to add oil between OCIs.

I figure at $22-$25 per oil change, doing it myself, vs the $1xx the dealership charges, AND the fact that I’ve timed myself (yeah, I’m that nerdy), and can do the oil change in 20 minutes from grabbing the ramps, to putting away the tools (I use a Milwaukee M12 ratchet to zip off the 4 10mm screws (I still have the socket 😮😂) that hold the splash shield in place. The Valvomax drain valve needs no tools) and pouring the drained oil into the 5 gallon used oil Hedpack vs making an appointment and eating up at least an hour at the dealer, I’m waaayyyyyy ahead.
Damn, I let the old oil drain for longer than that, at least 30min. So usually takes me about an hour total.

That’s another plus for the 0w16. I drain it hot, and it flows fast.

It’s the part that actually takes up the biggest chunk of time. I usually let it drain for 10-12 minutes, by which time it’s just an occasional drip.

I drain my oil for maybe 20 seconds. Because you got out the majority of it and who cares it doesn't matter

If the oil that is in there is so bad that you need to get out every drop of it, you should have changed it a long time ago
