I have to disagree with this assertion.

There is no issue with food being “too accessible”. Humans aren’t goldfish. Goldfish are too dumb to know better, and as opportunistic feeders, will continue eating far more than they should, as long as there’s food available.

Humans should know well enough to exercise some self control (genuinely mentally handicapped notwithstanding).

Just because it’s abundant doesn’t mean you have to stuff it in your mouth.

I can somewhat agree with the old school mentality of “clean your plate” potentially resulting in eating habits that can result in weight gain, but again, people can choose not to load up their plate, then go back for seconds, or order 2,500 kcalories of fast food for lunch, then do that again for dinner.
Oh man.
Actually, take an average person, especially someone who, for example, is overweight.
And ask them something about calories, macros, or anything like that.
I’ve just encountered people like that, and oh man…
On average, people don’t even understand the concept of calories or what food is made of.

And in fact, on average, people are just like goldfish. 😅

A huge number of people seriously don’t realize that in a single meal, they can eat their entire daily intake.

That's easy to say when you're not the one standing in the front lines of the grill at a Churrascaria.

I have to disagree with this assertion.

Plenty of humans are just as dumb, in this context, as a goldfish.

Some of the dumbest people I ever met were people

Didn't I tell not to touch the markets?
Why what happened did it blow up? I donated 60 bucks yesterday so that must be what happened.

Don't forget ''attention spans of'' and ''ability to cannibalize each other as if they were''

Modern junk & fast food is designed by very smart people to be addictive. Sales matter, not your health. Not everyone is perfect, so many will succumb to the addiction.

A friend of mine recently sent me a video and some photos of a get-together at his neighbor’s place, where they were making scrapple. I sort of knew what it was, but a quick refresher from him confirmed it.

They made something to the tune of 85 pounds of it. My friend was sent home with two lasagna tins of it. The individual responsible for the event was an invalid, meaning that he ‘needed’ a motorized scooter to move. From what my friend has gathered, there’s nothing wrong with his legs, he’s just not comfortable walking due to being so obese.

Not one of the people in any of the photos had a BMI anywhere near 35. And by that, I don’t mean lower. Many were smoking, and nearly all were drinking moonshine.

We, as individuals, have normalized this.

In this case, none of this involved massive corporations. We can debate the effectiveness of education, and I’ll probably agree with you to some extent, but the resounding conclusion here is that every one of those participants knew why, and just didn’t care. To their own detriment. There are brilliant people participating in this thread that refuse to alter their course.

I agree that things need to change. I wish we could all agree that we would make a concerted effort - as a whole - to alter this course. But that can’t happen if no one wants to, and whether it be Oreos, or Doritos, or Mountain Dew, or a 6000 calorie Starbucks doublefuckchocomochalatte, or a tin of scrapple, it starts with the individual.
