Random Thought Thread

Who in their right mind thought this was a good idea? As if people didn't already have a deep distrust of media...

On a somewhat related note, I was listening to some music the other evening and as I do on occasion, I checked out some new releases to see what's up. I came across an album that was attributed to a metal band that hasn't put out any new material in decades. I fired it up and thought, "yeah this isn't them", but it still sounded ok, albeit way over polished. It soon got lame and I started digging around on why an album like this was being released under a pretty legendary band's name.

Found zero info on it, aside from the fact that it has become a common practice for individuals to make some AI fabricated slop and then release it under a recognized artist's name to drive views and clicks.

I can't tell you how mad that made me. I felt violated.

I hate AI music with a passion

Declaring that something will be in short or no supply becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. For references see toilet paper hoarding and other nonsense from the recent past.
Watch the videos in order, for an understanding of
1) shipping speeds, even IF the Strait of Hormuz is opened immediately

2) how the damaged facilities affect production and availability.

3) why we’re not seeing effects YET (it’s related to #1. The oil tankers travel at about bicycle speed, so tankers that left before the war, are still en route/arriving. Industries are still operating on what they have on hand. Therein also lies the problem. Whenever the Strait is reopened, it will still take time for ships to make it to their destinations.

The damage to the facilities involved in GTL production is going to affect availability worldwide even with the Strait reopened. One of the large distributors has already mentioned price hikes AND allocations issues for upcoming bulk orders.

But everyone’s free to make their own assessments and choices. I’m simply bringing up something that most people seem to be quite unaware of, so folks can choose whether they want to look into, and make their own choices (as I did when trying to warn folks that COVID could cause some serious disruptions (before it really had an official name).

The thing is, is that I don't disagree. But making the announcements* to the GenPop brings in the speculators and tourist who all think they'll make a killing later by hoarding now. Thus making a painful, but manageable, situation spiral out of control.

*not directed at you. You just passed on what was already out there.

I feel the same way whenever I see an AI "trailer" for a movie. It's pretty easy to spot them due to the picture that is used for the preview, but I make sure to flag it as something I'm not interested in so that I don't find more.

My wife always seems to click on AI fake stories on Facebook, but that's another separate issue.

You might be ok to just run it out Nate. Lots of guys add a quart of 2 stroke oil to every tank on those older PS and Cummins. If it was me though I’d probably drain what I can out of the diesel tank.

I've been running this Arch oil 6500 in our big fuel tank here for everything. The lubricity is supposed to extend the life of these cp4 fuel pumps on the new power strokes. One of their claims is that it reduces regeneration and I have to say, my truck never actively regenerates. The diesel particle filter usually stays down at zero from normal driving.

Anywho. I'm going to run the rear tank on that truck, it's not very contaminated, and I'll pump the front tank into the tractor and the forklifts. Won't hurt them, I don't think. Might actually be good for them.
