Random Thought Thread

My main form of escapism from the daily deluge of news, specially at the evening when it is the worst time to catch up, is to resort to programs posted to YT by astrophysics/ astronomers. Sadly, I can no longer watch Neil deGrasse Tyson because he is way too expressive with his hand and arm motions which I generally find quite annoying and distracting, but that is just my taste. I can usually tolerate a bit of hand motion when speaking but not excessive amount of in-your-face hand pantomime (take note Hakeem Jeffries, ha!).

I absolutely loved Carl Sagan with his commanding voice and his pitch perfect deliveries but alas he's no longer with us and also this branch of science has progressed significantly (just IMO) since Mr. Sagan's passing. Professor Brian Cox is a favorite of mine although he is a bit more on the softer side with his accent and deliveries. Lately I have come across this other young fella named David Kipping who IMO, he's pretty darn fab 👍 Very very knowledgeable, quick thinker, succinct and no bloviating. Give Cool Worlds podcast a try if you are into this kinda stuff.

One of the things I love to have playing in the background is finding some YouTube channel of a guy who’s just doing random stuff with his hands, or simply walking around in nature. The key thing is that the videos are like 2–3–4 hours long. I just put them on in the background while I’m working or doing other stuff.

I also quite often watch lectures as background noise.

I either need to buy a riding mower or hire someone to take care of my yard. I just can’t find the time so far this year. Moving up to Farm in baseball, we’ve got something going on almost every day of the week now. Jamboree today. I’m to pooped now, I just want to relax the rest of today. 😔
Oh man, I totally get you.

Lately, I usually just find someone to handle these kinds of things for me.
Because if you take them on yourself, it eats up a ton of time, and then you end up with a bunch of extra expenses — you have to buy tools or materials, and in the end it costs you time, attention, and everything else.

Even if hiring someone ends up costing more than buying the stuff and doing it yourself, at least you get your time back. You can actually rest, recover, or spend time with your family.

You’re basically buying yourself time for a normal life and some decent rest.

Part of modern America’s problem is that its people stopped doing things for themselves. We’ve become passive consumers of entertainment and not doers of much of anything. There are exceptions, of course. The exceptions stand out due to the scarcity.

I don't think it correlates that strongly

I just really don't think that all the problems are because tired people don't want to mow their own lawn themselves.

people just want to spend time with family.
Rest.Drink some beer with family.
Fall asleep on the couch in the middle of the day.

All of that is way better than mowing the lawn. 😅
