With the recent "spike" in gas prices I started shopping for a fuel efficient vehicle .. when the quotes started coming in I wasn't too shocked but quickly realized that with Blade Show only 40 days away a new car would cut into my knife fund way to much so I threw a new set of tires on the Roadglide ( it gets around 30mpg ) and now I can support our favorite knife makers with a clear conscious 🤪🤣🤣

How much gas can you buy for the cost of a new vehicle, even if gas prices stay high? Even if you need a new car, how much gas can you buy for the difference between a conventional ICE and the hybrid or electric version?

I did the math, and for us it made more sense to buy conventional. Sad, because it felt like buying the past and not the future.

Not the best use of the hybrid system if all that you are doing is running errands around town with stop and go traffic. The best use is if you do ~50+ miles daily on the HWY in addition to around town.
Don’t have any experience with HEVs or PHEVs, but what’s the downside?

My thinking with PHEV was if something ever reoccurs like back in ‘73, you can plug that sucker in overnight, and still run errands around town without worrying about long lines or whether it’s ‘your day’ to fill up.

What’s been making me consider it even more, is looking at either the RAV4 Hybrid or one of the Subaru hybrids for the near 40mpg and potentially extended cruising ranges.

Wears down the battery of your hybrid system faster. Because of my sheer laziness to type today, I ill have to palagiarize Google:

Driving only around town is bad for a hybrid battery because it leads to chronic under-utilization, preventing the battery from reaching its optimal operating temperature and causing moisture buildup. Short, low-speed trips prevent the high-voltage battery from charging fully through sustained driving and can lead to excessive idling, which wears down both the battery and engine components.
