If I recall correctly, it is a vanilla infused Hogshead whiskey that is made at the Edgefield distillery in Oregon (my neck of the woods).

I don't know if it's kosher to post a link, but I will throw the description of the whiskey below (sans infusion).

Hogshead is an original. Continuing the independent and innovative styles of Northwest brewers and vintners, this whiskey is distilled with only a passing nod to the great Scotch, Irish and Bourbon distillers, before striking off on its own. Boasting a palate-pleasing combination of malty spirit – reminiscent of the malted barley grain that began the process – and the smoky, vanilla sweet-wood that surrounds the spirit until bottling, Hogshead is a rich, 5 year amber-hued whiskey.

I was concerned about it being overly sweet, but the bartender told me that though it wasn't any sweeter than your typical Old Fashioned, it was different due to the bitters and syrup. She was right. Different and amazing. I suspect that the bitters and the syrup will do the work regardless of what whiskey I try, but I have options to play around with.

Solid. I have had the McMenamins stuff. Good stuff.

Demerara is really good stuff pretty much raw sugar. Or lowly refined. If you struggle to find that sugar in the raw works as a great sub too. It’s close enough… turbinado sugar is about the same.

I’m curious about those bitters sounds like it’s coffee is in it too.
 
The hummingbirds have been incredibly active here, this summer. I managed to capture a quick shot of this female ruby-throated in between downpours the other day, resting. They’re extremely territorial, and fiercely defend their food sources. Watching them joust is an experience. Truly, the samurai of the bird world.

I have a friend in the hospital that proposed to his girl friend before things take a darker turn. She said yes, but they didnt have any rings, nor the time or money to get them before the quick ceremony. Well when you are a bladesmith and he loves damascus....

Beautiful shot! They start feeding more this time of year in preparation for their migration. They’ve been draining my feeders here, and gotten a lot more territorial about them!
