Random Thought Thread

It occurred to me, many of you may not be familiar with hand engraving or what an Airgraver is;) It's a palm sized pneumatic jackhammer that uses tiny chisels to remove and shape metal :)

Looks great, Chip.

Do you know what the metal is you're working on? Also curious if you do all that free-hand or if you put some sort of stencil down.

This particular piece is titanium (hence my earlier anodizing comment). It would be madness to attempt engraving on unknown material...a recipe for disaster for sure.

LOL, my eyeballs are good but not that good...I layout the pattern on the piece beforehand and follow the lines;)

Outline cut on side two :D

I actually traced out the pattern to see if it was an *infinite* knot or two separate knots. Made my eyeballs go wonky.

I like the finished product where you have the little shading detail where each ribbon goes under the other. Very cool.

Sometimes they catch my attention and I find them funny. This one caught my attention, mostly because it is strange without any context:

I'll make a note of it....

I see the middle one has a sharpened top clip. I imagine the two on the right are 3V and the one on the left is perhaps A2?

Now that I have a chance to view it on a bigger and clearer screen as opposed to the phone's screen, the one on the left is AW finish. Hard to tell as to whether it is in A2, but as you know the earlier A2 versions had the smooth thumb ramp whereas the 3V versions had the thumb ramp with notches. No matter how much I zoom in and use a magnifying glass, I am still not able to discern.

I dunno if the left is A2 but I do believe it is acid washed
And belongs in ebonite
