So we had our annual scotch doubles 9 ball tournament last night. My old partner and I won it last year. I had my wife’s baby shower yesterday and couldn’t make it on time so the tournament directors did the right thing and gave my new partner and I the bye for the first round so we could still play late. We absolutely demolished every single team we came across and won the trip to Vegas to play in nationals again. There was lots of complaints and a little arguing but I was able to keep out of it thankfully.

TL;DR - they waited 2.5 hours for us to get their just to have their asses whipped for the 2nd year in a row. Going back to Vegas baby!

Nice! Playing pool and being from NJ, do you know palonej palonej ?

I don't know why it is, but I seem to get along better with machinists than regular, normal people. Here's a fun little project I'm working on with a young machinist friend, the challenge being getting two usable knives out of a foot long piece of 1.5" steel. It's actually a pretty neat little knife which is utility oriented but based on the attributes usually ascribed to a 'semi skinner'. Next step is to sculpt the handle scales which, as you may or may not know, is my favourite part :)

Are you completing this project manually on a Bridgeport type machine or with a CNC?

It's coming along nicely. Clean and even machining. Nice job no matter what you're using.

the cnc machine my friend is using might be a monstrous 5 axis rig, but there are several cnc machines at his work that he might have used. The company he works for produces super high end fishing reels. He'll be machining the handle scales as well, and I don't expect I'll have to do much other than heat treating the blades and cleaning up the bevels. He learned a lot from this project and there are a number of little issues here and there, but we'll both end up with a neat little knife in the end, so mission (almost) accomplished :)

I had a really weird, scary yet exciting dream last night. I woke up from the dream and thought dang, that would be a great movie script or something! I go back to sleep and when I woke back up again around 7 AM, I couldn't remember a fooquing thing about it! Hate it when that happens; imagine the screenplay I could've written :D

That's funny. I used to have the same thing happen when I was younger; partially wake, but still half asleep, thinking that the dream I'd just awakened from would make an awesome book or movie script, except I'd go back to sleep, and could never remember all of it after fully waking up.

One night, I decided to leave a pen and notepad by the bed. The plan was to write everything I could remember upon initially waking up, so I could remember/reconstruct it when I fully awakened.

Sure enough, when I half awoke, I'd had a dream that would've made a brilliant script. I scribbled all the important parts down, so I'd be able to remember/reconstruct it all, then went back to sleep.

When I fully awoke later, I eagerly grabbed the notepad to read the masterpiece of inspiration I'd had...

I couldn't make heads or tails of what I'd written. It was gibberish. I haven't bothered trying to repeat the experiment since.
