Who among you (like me) is actually HAPPY when a knife you like/want and are considering buying is bought out from under/b4 you on the Exchange?

It's happened at least 3x's to me in the last few days -- even though I was 1st on the scene and took time to "consider" it -- and I'm totally relieved and have no regrets that I didn't HAVE to buy them.

Everyone who bought those knives saved me a lot of $$$$.

LOL!!!! ;)

I used to have that happen all the time back when Ray Laconico used to sell on the makers for sale forum. As a result, I have a dozen of his knives - hate to imagine how many I'd have if I had pulled the trigger on every one I wanted.

Absolutely!! 90% of the time when I impulse buy im just barely ok with the knife, I don't hate it well because its new addition to my collection but I sure don't show it the love and favor it like I do the ones I do my due diligence on

I totally feel your pain, my brother !

Nowadays, I run a search on the seller here before buying a knife. If it's gone before I have a chance to buy it, then it wasn't meant to be.
It not only saves me money, but also gives me peace of mind. With the increase in hacked accounts, shady sellers and G,B&U threads lately, slow is better than jumping on something too quickly.

I used to have a tendency to jump...quickly...to get that bargain....
At least once, I bought a knife I didn't ...but took it anyway and then resold right away... for a loss.
Much of the time...if I wait ten minutes and do a google search on the knife...I find out I don't really want the knife.
It is difficult to be careful and STILL get the knife.
btw, I wish I had a few of those ten Laconicos a guy posted earlier...a great maker...

I’ve heard that stated as biggest, fastest, most expensive. Problem is, okay you won but you’re dead. Now your toys will go to some loser.

If it’s not love at first sight, it’s not love at all? Wow, that seems kinda harsh.

Sometimes during making of a knife, I hate it briefly. But then when I finally get it built, I grow to love it.

By the time I spend 40-50 hrs on a knife, I’m emotionally invested. OTOH, I’ve wrecked them in the first hour as well. That saved me a bunch of time and effort.

This ^? IMHO, it's not meant to be.

As I said, I have no regrets not buying any knife that I liked but got sold b4 I decided whether 2 buy it or not.

Fact is, I already own "too many" knives w/a collection that currently stands at 351 knives most of which are worth more than $150-250 each. Do the math.

There are only a few knives still on my "must buy" list that I want to buy to back fill or improve my collection. So, I take the time to consider all of my purchases now and if the knife sells b4 I decide 2 buy it . . .

Oh, well!

However, even when I take the time to "consider" a purchase, some really GREAT knives languish on the Exchange and elsewhere and then I'm put in the position of having 2 buy it because no one else did.

I recently purchased a beautiful brown Olamic Kenetic Ocean Rainmaker w/bronze accents off the Exchange for $450 (retail around $650) because no one else wanted 2 buy it for over a day.

I didn't regret buying it but I really wouldn't have minded if someone else at bought it and saved me $450.

LOL! ;)

PS: The same thing happened w/a Crothers (CPK) Ultimate Fighter 1 (AEBL) that I was also recently "forced" to buy off the Exchange.

Would I have been worse off if I wasn't able to buy the Olamic or CPK if some one else bought them? No but I would have saved $800 if someone else did.

Double LOL!! ;) ;)

BTW, most of the knives that I want to buy now cost $350 or more, which is another reason I take time to consider the purchase.

I've got an ABSOLUTE limit of $500 per knife (including tax and shipping, if any) but that still leaves A LOT of knives that I could buy.

So, that's why I am usually HAPPY when a knife that I am "considering" is bought from "under" me.
