Random Thought . . .

I've got an ABSOLUTE limit of $500 per knife (including tax and shipping, if any) but that still leaves A LOT of knives that I could buy.
Right now, that’s true. But after a while of double digit inflation, when your 500 will buy a loaf of bread or a gallon of gas (but not both) you might have to exclude the shipping. Or buy gas station knives.

I musta been about 6 years old when I heard my dad tell my uncle, “I’d never spend over forty bucks on a knife.” I guess that was the cost then of a Western knife/hatchet combo, which he always carried while we were camping, hunting or fishing.

Later in life, he changed his mind and bought some in the $45 range.

FWIW, if inflation ever gets to the point that it'll cost $500 to buy a loaf or bread or a gal of gas, worrrying about buying a knife will be the least of our problems.

I'm actually old enough to have lived when inflation was in the teens and when I signed a mtg at 12% interest and I was still able to buy ANYTHING that I wanted to buy then.

Also, I'm at the point where I really don't NEED any more knives, so I don't have to buy any if I don't want to buy them but, if I do, I'm sure that I will have sufficient sums to do so.

BTW, my $500 limit on knives is NOT just an arbitrary #. It's based on the fact that if I can buy a GUN for $500, I'd rather buy a gun w/that $ than a knife.

As the cost for a gun (and my base point is the cost of s Glock G17 - of which I own 3) goes up, I'll adjust the max limit of what I'll pay for a knife accordingly, as long as I'm willing to pay the price and as long as it makes sense to buy any more knives at any price.

I had a 12%-ish mortgage that I paid off early, but it cut into my knife and gun budget significantly.

I get it, no knife that costs more than a Glock 17. Cool.

I'm with you folks. The exchange has been my "go to" place for knives the last few years. I've been known to waffle on buying or not buying something then a sense of relief when someone else jumps.

Wow, if the ones I were interested in cost that much, I would definitely be glad some one else got it before me!! 😁 The good thing, more than likely you are getting the good quality stuff.

More good news!

Just "saved" $420 on a ZT 0560CBCF because the seller wouldn't accept a Paypal G&S payment, even though I offered to pay an extra $20 on top of $400 to pay for the fees.

And just "saved" $250 on a Spyderco Police4 G10 K390 that some bought b4 I saw the listing.

So, I just "saved" a total of $670 today. :)

LOL!! ;)
That is interesting, I'm guessing the new tax law drove that. Would they accept a check or money order?

That was part of it but I think ppl are making a bigger deal out of the new tax rule than is merited.

The seller actually offered to sell it to me for less if I'd pay by cash (or equivalent) but I didn't know the guy, he didn't have much of a trade history and I prefer to pay w/a credit card which can only be done w/G&S - not only for the transaction sureties but also for the convenience and reward points that come w/paying by credit card.

It was a great price and I would have liked to add the knife to my collection but only if I could buy it on terms acceptable to me.

So, I have no regrets passing on any "cash only" transactions.

The more sellers who start accepting "cash only" for the knives they are trying to sell, the more money that I'll save by being prevented from buying another knife that I'd like to own BUT really don't need, which is fine with me.

LOL!! ;)

That very thing has made me as or more happy then the knife in question would have on several occasion.

Happened today, or better last night, I was eyeing a Lionsteel in damasteel and was wavering when my electronic device ran out of power. After charging it, woke up to find that it went to a good home. Felt relieved and glad someone could enjoy it. just asked for the person to show us any pics in the future.

I spent 90 min with a knife in my cart yesterday, AA forge website. I walked the dog, drank coffee, hit refresh 75 times. On the 76th refresh.. an unknown hero bought the knife I had selfishly attempted to horde.

I’ve currently got one in the cart at ACK ( I’m not saying what knife though 😂).

This happens at least once a week. I have a problem.

Proudly removed 2 knives from my EB watch list and from my auction sniper program yesterday. :)

Currently, there are NO knives on my EB or ACK watch/saved lists and NO knives that I am interested in buying on the Exchange.

A rare occasion, indeed! LOL!!! ;)
