Thank you so much Jack for just telling it like it is and keeping it "in the real" without sugar coating. I think horn is like wearing a tailored suit. May look impressive but there's just some things you can't or shouldn't do that might be accomplished without thought, in jeans and runners for example LOL ... or something like that. Horn is what they had, so horn is what I have. I didn't go looking for horn and given a choice of other materials, likely wouldn't have selected horn ... especially the examples I have. There are no remarkable characteristics in the horn I have. Now given choices of materials and shown horn as seen in your post I quoted, I may not have hesitated HA. Very Nice. So it is that now I have some horn pieces. I'll be satisfied as such for a good while I think. These knives really are good knives although it seems that may have been pure luck of the draw and I won't press my luck. The Lamb Foot Senator is a remarkable favorite while it has the least favorable F/F of my 3 AW's. Just a good fit for me I suppose. Sorry to babble on Jack. All I really wanted to say is thank you sir. :)

Apart from that 'second' I think all my Wright's knives with horn are either SFOs, or in a couple of cases hand-picked at the factory. In the case of the former, I paid considerably more for their very best horn, and had to make numerous trips to the factory, and dozens of phone calls to ensure the knives were made as they wanted them. Unfortunately, if you just email them or ring them up, you really could get anything, and sellers on the internet (even Wright's own website) often don't display accurate photos of the knives they're selling. Most of the horn-handled knives I've seen from Wright's have rather lacklustre horn, and it often has faults. You did well Jim! :D They can be very good knives, but I think the odds are against that (of the last 20 I had off them a year or so ago, there were maybe a couple of good knives, and almost all of the rest had off-centre blades, and terrible grinds). I'm not a fan of their 'Senator' pattern particularly, but the first one I had was absolutely appalling. I sent it back, and the old gaffer, John Maleham, replaced it with something much nicer. A pleasure Jim, I'm enjoying seeing your photos

OH ... and Jack Black Jack Black , the coffee mug I held in the pic on the last page and the one above are from England. Cauldon. I love that Staffordshire red clay with special Rockingham glaze ... although most of my mugs are brown and used most often. Sometimes they even contain some Yorkshire Tea although I honestly prefer Typhoo LOL. I have both Cauldon and Adderley "Betty" pots but find my Technivorm Cup-One brews the most consistent cup believe it or not.
