Just talked to Justin Gingrich a couple days ago about doing a few mods to my recently acquired RD6. I know it is already common knowledge, but I just want to give a shot out to his excellent customer service as it has been done many times before. He is going to thin out the edge significantly and fit it with some micarta slabs that I find more appealing for a ridiculously low fee. What a great guy and what a great product.

Justin’s thinned out edges are great: they’re much better for slicing, and are still strong enough for heavy work.

What kind of micarta slabs are you planning to get?

And what about some stainless Corby screws to set them off …

Well, I bought the knife from Sage Creek Outfitters (pleasure to deal with btw) and the only ones they had at the time were the orange handled models. Didn't care for those slabs so I am just going with some tan micarta scales because I like the contrast on the black blade. The scales are all he really charged me for. I experimented with painting the handles with some satin beige Krylon Fusion paint and they looked great and the paint took well but I noticed the finish started coming off on the sheath strap when it got hot in my truck. Not familiar with Corby screws, care to enlighten me please?

Both of my RDs have tan micarta handles. Justin left them reasonably rough for me, and they are nice and grippy.

Corby screws do up like the fasteners on your RD, but look like solid pins. They can be polished up, and can give a knife a different look.
