Ranger knives.

only got a custom rd-7 (thanks tolly!), a very sturdy camp/chopper knife. i haven't yet beat on it, it seems to be on par with busse, swamprat, albiet a much more affordable price point. being 5160 steel, maybe less corrosion resistent, however i care for my blades quite well so no problems there (wash, dry, sharpen, oil). for <$140 a terrific bargan! go for it!

Thinking of getting a RD-7 is it worth the money?

Yes, it's worth the money and much more.

If the knife is the type you're looking for, that being a very heavy use, tough as nails field knife, not a skinner or anything like that, then it's real hard to find a better one. The price is very reasonable, Justin (the owner) is a really good guy, you won't find a better warranty anywhere, and the knives are just as tough as they look. The only downside I can think of for the RD7 is that it's not a "looker", "safequeen" type of knife. And that is not a downside at all for a lot of guys, including myself. It's a rough looking knife for rough use. I'd go for it - I've got one, and have beat on it like a red-headed stepchild, and it doesn't care.

That is exactly what I am looking for already have a RC-3, which is a great knife for skinning and tasks of that nature. Just need a tough knife that can handle a lot thrown at it. So as soon as I buy my books for next semester that will be my purchase.

Justin's knives are super tough. Great warranty and service. Definately one of the best bang for your buck knives. :)

Ditto what the others have stated. Ranger knives won't win any beauty contests, but they sure do take a lick'n. Top to bottom, all Rangers, Shiv in sheephorn, Afghan, and the old style RD6 spear point:)

Another perk is that you can get your RDs semi-custom for not too much more $$$. All sorts of possibilities.

Now I'm geeting the hankering for another RD! ;)

Just currently trying to decide whether it is worth it to spend the extra $10 to get the RD9.

Think about your needs. Some say that a bigger knife can do what a smaller knife can do and more. I think there are probably more trade offs depending but I'd say the big difference between the RD7 and RD9 would be chopping power. The RD9 would, of course, be a better chopper. So if you really need chopping as a priority then I'd go for the big boy.

I have known Justin for several years and I think you would like his knives. After the RD-7, look at the RD-4 it is a nice knife also.

Justin is a stand up guy and he will stand behind his product.
