Ranger knives.

RDs aren't really slicers, ryba-mech. They are sharp, but you're not gonna fillet a trout with one.

Its not what they are designed for. Appreciate them for what they are.

Actually, if you really like Rangers and are looking for a slicer the Shiv is probably the way to go.

The best thing to do if you're serious about getting a Ranger knife & have questions, is call. I found it easier & more informative than through emails.

The standard RDs are very thick & are not really great slicers, however, I would think a RD9 would be wanted more for its chopping abilities. If not, Justin can & will put a grind on it that would be more suitable for your needs. I believe he's also used thinner stock for a custom, too.

I found that the RAK (Preferably with scales on it), is a great compromise. 3/16" 1095 makes for a better slicer than the RDs & can still chop.

I've always thought that a RD9 & a G-10 or micarta scaled shiv or RAK are a great combo to have & would end up costing you just a little over $200, but you don't have to do it at once.

I only have good things to say about Justin and his knives

Excuse my ingnorance, but tell me where to find them and good info to look at. I was recommended to look into them for a good camp knife around 6-7 1/2 inches.

c bach the rd series wouldn't work as a general use camp knife I would look at Ontario Rat-7 or get custom micarta scales put on the Ranger RAK.

I have an RD-7 that works just fine as an all-around camp knife. For people who like a mid-large sized stout blade the RD series are perfect.
