Rank your Paramilitary 2 (for those of you who have or had one)

I just got my first PM2 last week. It's the green cts-204p. I've been carrying it every day since and so far I'd put it in top 5 of the few dozen knives I own. In terms of cutting performance it ranks #1 without a doubt. Something about the shape and grind make it glide through just about anything easier than any other knife I own, including my manix xl s90v and benchmade 810 M390. That said the pivot didn't come nearly as smooth out of the box as my other spyderco knives. I've been tinkering with it to get it "dialed in" and now it's much better. I think I might need to take it apart to clean it, but all the "taking it apart voids the warranty" talk is making me think twice. Due to the design of the detent it "flicks" open quicker and easier than my other spydies.

Out of mass produced modern folders it is my #1. I'm a traditional folder guy now but I do still have a couple of moderns and this is one of them and the only one I actually use these days.

I'm pushing about 250 folders (haven't counted lately) and Spydies are typically very high in personal preference. But I'm not all that crazy about the PM2. It is OK, but I almost never carry any of my 3 (blk/DLC S30V, red Putnam/DLC S30V, grn/CTS-204p). I'd rate it somewhere in my bottom 50. OTOH, my Manix 2 S110V is my favorite knife. :)

The ParaMilitary 2 is definitely in my top 3, and I currently own a little more than 20 Spydercos, but including one's I've sold or gifted I've had over 30. I've owned a few Gerber and Kershaw folders (Never particularly enjoyed either), as well as a smattering of cheap no name brand knives I've either found or bought for $10 when I was 10 years old...oh and about 4 Swiss Army knives. The ergonomics on the Paramilitary 2 are great with my hands, in every grip I've tried. I have 2 (Digi-Cam satin finish, and Green with CTS-204P blade), and they both feel rock solid with absolutely no play in any direction, and yet are light enough that they're great in my tool pouch...you want to be as light as you can be when you're about to climb 300 feet (And the added weight of 300 feet of rope). The blade shape and subsequent geometry are excellent, and I haven't found many things that it doesn't do very well at. Both were VERY slightly off center from being pushed sideways by the lock (After loosening the pivot as much as possible while keeping the screw heads flush with the handle), and both smoothed up enough after an hour or so of flicking that I was able to tighten the pivot a little more to fully center the blades. The only flaw I can find on either of them is a very slightly off plunge line on my Digi-Cam, but it's very hard to discern. The ParaMilitary 2 isn't quite my favourite Spyderco design, but the standard S30V model at its price point is in my opinion, the best all around pocket knife made today.

I'd rate it a 10/10 and place it in my top 5. Best value folding knife out there in my opinion (although my definition of "value" may be very different from others).

Ive only got 5 knives, but out of those, I would have to say the PM2 is second only to my BM 707. Although the exact breakdown changes almost daily since theyre all awesome blades. The PM2, 586, and native 5 swap places a lot. But the PM2 would be my first choice if i needed to pick just one and didnt know what i would need it for. However, if I could only keep one that i would have to edc forever, the PM2 would loose to the 707 everytime due to size. Its amazingly versatile, but just not the best size for edc IMO. Others like bigger blades, so it works better for them. I love the design and really like the blade shape and grind because it makes it a demon of a slicer. The full flat blade is awesome for food prep. But I primarily take my PM2 on hikes and as a back up to my fixed blade when camping. Its one tough folder, thats for sure

As of right now:

1. 707 sequel
2. PM2
3. 586 mini barrage in m390
4. native 5
5. blacked out tenacious

I've owned 4. Grey 20CP, Blue M390, and two S30V. It's a very well built and designed knife but I've gotten rid of all of them. It's a very nice knife but just wasn't the be-all end-all for me like some people.

#1 is the a Para2 ~~ #2 is a Delica ZDP189 ~~ and #3 is a Blue Manix .!** I do carry the Delica more than the others though.^^

That's a tough question, as I edc different knives for different reasons. Just a classy badass tough edc- gayle Bradley all day . If I'm going hiking or rock climbing or just all around active the pm2 ranks right up there . Although, for those activities , my ffg endura kicks it outta my pockets often due to cost (loss factor) and handle material (frn grabs the pants much more than g10

i've got the grey CTS-20CP model. of the dozens, maybe close to a hundred, folders i've owned or still own it is top 12 but not my top spyder. that honor goes to the GB with southard close behind. the PM2 has a touch of side to side play. that and its light weight leave it lacking a certain solidity that i love in those other spydies listed as well as other knives i rank above the PM2 for my own personal use. in all reality it could easily satisfy nearly all my cutting needs for the rest of my life but i always want just a bit more lol

Looks like I'm the odd man out on this one. I handled an original Para-Military when they first came out and was so overwhelmingly unimpressed that, at a time when I was buying one of virtually every new Spyderco that came out, I never purchased one. Handled a PM2 sometime after its release and was equally unimpressed, so I've yet to own one of those either. It would not make my "top 100 Spyderco Folders" list. Only way I could ever see myself purchasing one is if Spyderco used it as the Spyderco Forum's forum knife.

Personally speaking the PM2 was love at first sight. Enjoyed the 1 but it lacked a few things that I feel the 2 took care of. Id rank it conservatively at an 8. You will be hard pressed to find a more efficient spyderco user that cuts better in the same size range. Plus made In Golden CO Earth

For my own style of use

top 6, Caly 3, Calypso Jr FRN, Endura 4 G10, Delica 4 FRN, Para 2, Military, Dfly 2. Next in line would prolly be an Alox Pioneer.
