Okay, this thread is officially blowing my mind.. I didn't think it was possible to completely POWN CPM-S90V and M390 like that. That's some impressive steel!

It's not like I need it but I sure want it. My two M390 knives are more than I'd ever need when it comes to edge retention but damn.. That K390 is ridiculous lol.

How's the K390 mule's ease of sharpening compared to the M390 Military? Or even the M390 Gunhammer @ 62?

I also know the reason as to why this thread isn't a sticky but should we start a petition to try and make it one? If enough interest is gained then the voice of the People is surely to be heard. Am I right? Or am I right?

This has been the most useful thread on this entire forum, for me at least. I think other people have the right to have this thread easily found and seen.

Start a petition against Kevin? He may make you walk the plank. Besides, this thread is always on the first page. NBD.

No, of course not TV.. I'm completely for Kevin and this forum. Because of Kevin and this forum, I've learned so much that wouldn't have been possible without him/this forum.

I mean just a general petition regarding the fact that this thread is full of important information that could be very prevalent to anyone researching their next knife purchase. Of course Kevin could veto it as he sees fit because it is his forum after all.

I'm not trying to start anything here but simply trying to look out for anyone and everyone that's part of this great community. I love this forum and have, personally, spent many hours doing my own research here before stumbling upon this very informative thread. I'm just thinking that this thread being a "sticky" could save members a lot of time and money with regards to researching their next or any future purchases.

Also, if I'm way out of line here, then please lmk and I'll shut up..

Well, K294 and CPM 10V will take it up a notch. If you get them from a reputable custom maker with a suitable geometry, you will see a similar jump YET AGAIN. Think about that for a while... :D

And my comments in no way reflect poorly on M390 or any other steel. I'm very, very happy with my Mules, all of them. Great knives!

I will be doing a review on it, but the blades (Cutting edge) too short to test consistently in the rope cutting... I tried to test the N5 in S35VN before.

If it's too short to test reliably, does that mean that it's too short to get the most out of the S110V on it?

The cutting edge is just too short to get an accurate, consistent measurement of down force, more push cutting than draw cutting.

Doesn't that mean that we can't take advantage of the high wear resistance because we'd mostly be doing push cuts with a short blade? I'm not nitpicking Jim, I just want to get a clear picture in my mind's eye.

Not, it doesn't mean anything except to me and my testing method. :)

Hi Jim Ankerson,

First - Thanks for the great read. Your one of the people that brought me back to the forum once I dropped in a few months ago. I appreciate hardcore so thanks for adding that to the forum.

Question - I saw that you stated in another post (I think) that the K390 blade that you had tested previously was a custom with 10 degrees profile to a 15 degrees bevel yielding a .010 behind the blade and the mule is 15 degrees profile to a 25 degrees bevel leaving .025 behind the blade (or something close to those words) that was not as effective, so my question is - would it be a large percentage improvement in the slicing power of a mule to try to bring it to those specs or are we talking only like 5-10 % for hours and hours of work reprofiling? Back ground thoughts leading to question - I want to process as a full deer without having to stop and sharpen my knife as I'm usually back in the deep woods doing this and have to carry out my meat. My 420 HC Buck Zipper needed many sharpenings per deer and my Cold Steel Master Hunter Plus, San Mai VG-1 blade, needed a few swipes on the sticks also, so I'm setting up a Mule in the K390 to 'get 'er done' in one fast session. Possible? Your opinion?

Thanks for your thoughts.

It was a K294 knife (A11) and .010" behind the edge at 10 degrees per side.

On the K390 Mule you won't have to worry about it as the edge retention is so high you could do a lot of deer as in more than a few and not have to worry about sharpening it.

I would leave it as it is and you will be fine.
