Rare GECs

Here's a 'Northfield' I acquired a few years back:

Great stuff, Trand, especially love the rare and colorful #48s!

Here are some rare Cuban Stockmen I was fortunate enough to pick up in 2014, from top to bottom:

2011 Burnt Stag, 11 made
2007 Pond Bone, 13 made
2008 Caribou Stag, 10 made
2011 Ancient Kauri Wood, 4 made

I REALLY like that Pond Bone. I wish GEC would do some more like that. Doesn't seem to be as much variation in covers as there used to be. If it's a cost issue, I wouldn't mind paying a little more.

Great collection!

I love the look of that pond bone too. I wish they would take that bone, or something very similar, and use it in their Beaver Tail line of knives. The jigged wood they use now on the Beaver Tails just doesn't do it for me.

Now that would be a good lookin' combo! I totally agree w you that the sweet beaver tail shield would look a lot sexier on something besides that completely underwhelming wood.

That's why they call them Beaver Tails! Because of the Jigged Wood!

LOL, Oh Yeeeeeeaaahh! :o

I'm a little thick sometimes, that makes perfect sense. If they jigged the Pond (or a brown) bone, that would still carry on the theme.

I might need a Beaver Tail of some kind anyway. Big beaver fan. :)

Thanks Trand:thumbup:

Wish I'd got the Tidioute version in Yellow delrin as well:(

Regards, Will

Pond bone is real nice!

This is a question for someone who has inside info on GEC. I had an opportunity to acquire a #15 crownlifter with a one arm main in natural canvas micarta a few months back. Looking through GEC's production totals, I can't seem to find it. That is unless they somehow mislabeled it. They have 151214CL - natural canvas micarta 13 pcs, which is the clip blade, and they have 15A214STL - natural canvas micarta 11 pcs, which is a 2 blade/steel liner version.... right?! What I'm wondering is, shouldn't the one I'm looking for be 15A214CL? I jumped on this specific model precisely because I believed it to be the only one arm crownlifter they have made to date, but I'm wondering if there was an error made in the catalog, and if not, just how many were actually made? I'm sending off an email to GEC asking as well.

My apologies for the crummy photo..... it's not a very good time for pictures right now. It's the one on the far right.

To start with, the GEC pattern number should be stamped on the tang. It will be on the back of the main blade. That stamp probably won't have a suffix. Secondly, a lot of times GEC production totals don't show some of the short run/parts knives. These are done at the end of a run just to use up left over parts. Sometimes these are finished and shipped so quickly that no real record of them is kept.
Having said all that, 11pieces sounds about right for that knife.

I heard back from Chris yesterday and it turns out that you are right Bob. Not that I was second guessing you; I just wanted to hear it directly from someone at GEC. They are listed as STL in the production totals and there were 11 pieces. Apparently this is the only one arm crownlifter offering so far because Chris initially said she couldn't recall them ever being made and even requested a photo of it.

Although I consider pretty much every GEC knife to be pretty rare, it's nice to have one that is even more rare. Now if I could somehow get a rendezvous knife this year without actually attending...

Here's a more deserving photo:

I was able to snag one of those too.

:thumbup::thumbup:

I LOVE this knife, but I have to admit that it's one of the ones that I only admire...... of the three crownlifters I have, the antique yellow lp clip is the one that sees action.

The Stew's Blades are all pretty scarce. The singles are each 1 of 34 and the 2-blades are 1 of 20 for the wood and 1 of 17 for the bone.

It's unfortunate that not everybody who wants one of Charlie's SFOs can always get them, but I appreciate that he keeps collectors in mind and doesn't go crazy with his production numbers.

I don't remember if I posted this before or not:

Here it is.

GEC #12 Smooth White Bone from 2009 w/ Plain Shield. 1 of 2

One of these days I'm gonna have to wipe that smile off its face and put it to use.

This GEC 251109 in Lollypop Red is one of only 4 that were made. I guess that qualifies as rare.
