Rare for me at least....Stainless White Owl in Light Tan Bone, One of only five made, which means there are only 4 max in the US now

Will, if I may ask a favor: since you are such a fan of the EE knife and white owl in particular… and an eloquent and knowledgable expert. I just gifted my 68 Owl (Howard) Northfield UN-X-LD in Cowhide Jigged Bone to a dear friend from Ireland who helped me plan a wonderful trip with my parents. He has lived in my home town of Dallas for many years and has a mini empire of Irish pubs here. However he is not a knife guy. Believe it or not this is his first pocket knife at the age of 58. He asked me to give him a little info about the knife and the pattern. I would love to share a line or two from you if you’d be willing. No worries if not! Thank you for anything. And other fellows please feel free to chime in

Nice first knife - EE, an older pattern in the history of knives. A single-spring double-ender requires advanced cutlery skills!!
Stainless - good choice for a beginner!!

DaveHS Thank you Dave, I don't consider myself expert- connoisseur maybe A very nice gift for your friend (and better late than never, what CAN he have been doing with himself for well-nigh 60 years and no pocket knife? Beyond all comprehension ) Charlie has summed it up very fittingly, although I don't think the knife you gave was stainless, they're rather uncommon from GEC to put it mildly....The Equal End satisfies the symetrist in people, offers a pocket-knife that is markedly slimmer than an equivalent 2 blade same end jack. Certainly, it's a test of skill for the cutler to 'nest' the blades avoiding blade play and rub, so the action must be very precise for it to work as a single-spring double ender. Many of my single-spring double end knives, including the EE ones have very satisfying walk&talk and this is always welcome. In fact the Forum Knife 2015, the last of the Canal Streets whilst not an EE , is single spring and mine has operatic talk

The White Owl was a relatively early model by GEC, the rarest are Spear master, Clip being dominant . I feel it works very well as a solo knife, offering decent sized master blade in a compact frame, not a pocket deadweight at all so can be carried in most clothing. The Owl is a powerful bird with symbolism going back in Europe, to the Ancient Greeks, discrete yet charismatic. The goddess Athena, protectorix of Athens, had a cult of Owls as figures of wisdom and strength. This knife is also an excellent second or back-up to a larger carry that might have different blades e.g. a large Sheepfoot or Stocknife.

Very generous and thoughtful of you to give the White Owl as a special present, he will appreciate the gesture as it comes from you, a man with a formidable collection and corresponding taste. Let's hope the Owl proves a gateway drug....

Thank you Will! Very appreciative. And kind words from someone I do consider an expert with one of the finest collections here. My thoughts exactly: the White Owl is a special breed! Your ebony is a stunning example. The spear point owl is a grail knife for me.
