Rarest of the rare

An excellent addition to this thread

I've been looking for an 8 pound keg of CFE223 or Win748 for damn near 10 months now.

Pic thread

1 of 1, apprentice straight handle battle mistress, 5160 steel. Probably part of the batch that went to Justin Gingrich for his Ranger Knives.

The rarest Busse? The one before all others hence the most valuable and the only one you'd ever need??? Well...

;) :D:D:D

besides him, a few Busse knives do come to mind. His VERY few Bird & Trout knives, especially Hammy's. Or, his "flint knapped" O1 steel knives. Or one of his Defiance Hill(?) knives might qualify. Sorry, the pix are out there on this forum, but I don't have them on hand to post.

ETA: Found one... And pretty sure that the Defiance Hill and Hammy's B&T are on Bad Mojo.

I'm sure Pokey will be along at some point to showcase her Nuclear Seahorse. Well hopefully she will be......

Any 1 of 1, 1 of 3, or 1 of 5 is going to be rare simply based on low numbers. A better question is which regular productions are rare. I think anything pre 2002 or so would fall into that category with some being rarer than others simply based on how popular they are. There are a lot of regular production knives that are extremely popular that people are holding on to and you rarely ever see come up for sale.

This is exactly correct.
There are a lot of 1 off's, or very low production knives. Most of the variants or custom shop pieces are completely original 1 off's. The original Trickster Mojo, the BlueGrass Bowie, the Chuckette, the original Hatchets(though I believe there are 4 of them). Most of these will probably not see the for sale forum in many many years.

Then there are hard to find (rare) production pieces, the Original Argonne Assault, any of the Hood Knives, the 82nd Airborne, any of the original Desert Stormfighters. These were pieces that were made in greater quantities and could at one time be bought at shows or even ordered direct. They are next to impossible to find now on the for sale forums or from individuals as they are all locked up in collections. They are probably not what you'd consider rare in production numbers(although only Jerry knows for sure and he probably doesn't remember anymore ;) ) but they sure are rare to ever see or find.

Then there are the one's that have never even been seen by the current collectors, the original folder Jerry made and it was labeled under a different name, the pieces he made for friends or family (Dan's knives), the one's he made for himself to hunt with etc. Those are the really extremely rare pieces, the one's we don't even really know exist or we've heard stories of them when alcohol has been involved but never seen, only stories of them exist. Those are the extremely rare pieces. Find one of those and you'll be king of the internet for a year ;)

Very different kinds of "rare" but to a collector that wants one in his/her collection anything you can't easily find can be considered rare.

:D:D

Ran into the guy at a couple of shows. He kept telling me that he had one of our knives from years ago. He finally brought it with him and thankfully I was there too. He said that he uses it everyday. I wish I owned it. This guy didn't even hesitate to say "NO thank you" after I gave my offer. Which was pretty fair and stretching the old bank account. LOL He planned on dying with that thing. Don't hold your breath guys. I am guessing he might be in his late 40's and healthy as can be.
