Can't wait to get started!

In tools I own a hot glue gun, a philips head screw driver, and a finger nail file. For experience I had 7th grade shop plus 20 years of running the office copy machine.

The wife says I can use the back half of the utility closet in our fourth story apartment, and can spend up to $75 on equipment.

I'm raring to go! What is my next step?

Oh man look at you! Just run on down to lowes and grab some of there steel. That's the good stuff. Best way I've found to heat that it is to turn your home oven to max and leave the steel in there for 2 days and quench in koolaid. It's something to do with the sugar or something. Good luck!

The best way to make knives for $75 is to buy fifty knives from "The Knife Channel" and re-label them with your name.

And the best way to re-label them is etch your name with super enchant goop(Google for instructions), immediately after applying etch they need a sub 32 degree quench in the freezer for exactly 7.8 seconds but before that you need 3 thermal cycles in the fridge for 12.3, 10.7, and .08 second. After freezer quench neutralize with 3 flushes in the toilet(blue water) and set out to air dry.

And by the way, you should search"Phillips head screwdriver mods for knifemaking" on YouTube. Some really great stuff there.

Well now you need to design a knife. Use a lot of straight lines with little to no curves. Go big for your first, make a large chopper with 3/8 steel (doesn't matter which, just make sure its rusty). Also, make sure theres a pinky hole for bear defense.
I'm sure someone will add anything I missed.

There is a YouTube video that shows how to make a filing jig with a nail file and a Bic lighter forge. Dude was making blades in like 5 minutes, but it could have been the editing.

Spend $10 on the economy stone. Put something that looks like an edge on the fingernail file. Break the handles off the Phillips head screw driver. Glue the handle pieces onto the file handle with the glue gun.

Buy your wife a new pair of shoes for $65 and cut the tags off with your new "knife"

:)

Soon enough, Dracula will come along to re-educate you with THE fool-proof cheap knife making position version 69.

Read the g-damn stickies before posting such foolishness!!!!!

75 bucks wont even get you good look at a custom knife made by one of the top dog makers

where's the friggin count when you need him ;0)

John, I love a good rant, but I can only give you 1 and a half out of 5 stars. The large bold underlined text helped, but I felt it still lacked fire and passion. I expect more from a bladeforum poster of your caliber.

Can I have your calendar since you're not using it? :D

How is it that no one has mentioned that he has to quench the steel under the light of a full moon at a crossroads with the blade perfectly aligned with magnetic north? That's the most important part! I ruined 5 of my first knives before someone told me that.
