Hey guys, I just watched the youtube review by Blunttruth and have to say I am truly impressed by this budget folder. For under 30 bucks this looks like an amazing value, and the quality demonstrated in the test video is beyond what I expected.

Any of you folks carry around the rat 1 when you're not kickin ass with your fixed blades? How do you like it for every day carry since it's a bit heavier than smaller folders?

I have had one for a while and for the price it is a steal. And it really is not that heavy!

The RAT-1 is an Ontario knife that was designed by RAT. It is not a RAT CUTLERY knife and doesn’t come with their warranty, quality, etc. It can be kind of confusing, just wanted to make sure you were clear on that part.

ETA, Blunttruth's reviews were one of the reasons I got my first RC knife. I think he's a member of BF, but according to his youtube page, he was disappearing for a while.

+1  i would wait for the izula folder if you want a RAT folding knife.

its a bit on the large size for a pocket knife , but its easy to carry , and pretty nice. one of my fav daily carry blades, but i drop it for a small crkt m16 if i have to move around a bit lighter then normal. for the price the folder is nice.

its not an RC but its still a good design and useful blade for me.

ahhhh, thanks for clearing that up guys. Despite it being Taiwan made, looks like a great value for a beater knife to not worry about.. When is the Izula folder set to release?

late 2010. hope you can wait. if you cant, like me, just get an izula fixed blade. and when the folder comes out i will get one of those too.

The RAT-1 folder offers alot of bang-per-buck and can take hard use.

At that price how can you afford NOT to get it?

I agree with you. Definitely not trying to stray you away. You'll get an Izula fixed and folder anyway, so don't worry. :D

The RAT 1 is a great folder, and for 25 bucks it is the best folder. It is true that ontario neither has the QC of rowen nor the warranty of RC knives, but they are good. I used to EDC my RAT 1 but now it is fixed blades all the way.

yea I can't go around carrying a fixed blade around the city here so I love to keep a light folder with decent sized blade at all times

depending on what city an izula would be legal. if you have a blade length restriction it is probably 3".

It is true that some cities in CA have ordinances regarding fixed blades, but there is no state law, and most cities allow open carry of a fixed blade. Look into your local laws to be certain. Many places in California restrict the length of FOLDERS (often at 3", making a RAT 1 Illegal), but do not regulate openly carried fixed blades. Look into you local laws to find out for sure. Talk to a local Cop (especially a patrol sgt) about how the local station interprets the law, as this is the most important factor for you. Often, officers do not care whether the knife is perfectly legal or not, but just want to know it is there. Many cops are knife guys too.

good advice, but I live in the most liberal place on the planet (San Francisco) and there is always somebody upset about what you have not even done yet! ha

just saw the izula folder on the site, looks fantastic with that micarta handle.. very nice. Any word on blade length?

The RAT-1 is a really nice folder for the money. I've been carrying one at work for the past few weeks and if it were US made, it would be a favorite.

I got my RAT-1 folder from CRKS about 1 1/2 years ago and other than the paint chipping from the get-go, it's been great.
takes a good edge, holds it through some abuse, etc...
not to heavy to use it as an EDC, either.

The RAT-1 is all the "tactical-survival-folder" that anyone really needs -it kicks aCE.

I am sure the Izula foler will trump it, but the RAT-1 is less than $30 bucks online. That makes it pretty hard to beat for a serious user knife.

I paid $26 for mine - there are better knives with better steels, but it is hard to find something better for the same price. I think that the design is VERY good - even though it is an Ontario knife you have to give a nod of appreciation to RAT for the design!

I do like the RAT-1, for a folder anyway. Nowadays I have fixed blade knives for every role I ever used a folder for, and I just like the KISS rule, the less amount of moving/working parts, the less chance something has to fail. It locks up solid, is very ergonomic and the blade is designed well... it just won't hold up to the abuse a HEST will take.
