RAT 1 Folder

I own a RAT-1. It's a good value. I practiced freehand sharpening with it, so it's the sharpest knife I own. Gonna convex my Izula soon though, so it compete quite well.

I nearly ordered one as a tough beater, but a Buck 889 crossed my path... From what I've heard, the "1" is tremendous value. I don't like the Taiwan stamp, but that's completely irrational as I very well realise.

Only things I didn't care for about it was mine came with a black painted blade. Maybe they only come in that configuration??

Plus, when I deploy with the thumbstud, my thumb slides right onto the bottom of the sharpened edge. Only years of experieince have kept me from following through and slicing my digit!

Darn, the "close-out" sale link I got took me directly to a $29 black model. Is satin just as inexpensive? I'd get one if they are & use the black one for sharpening practice, more than EDC.

When I ordered mine I saw the black & the satin and the combo edge & plain edge. I got the plain edge satin finish and I really like it. I paid $26. I have a few Opinels that were cheaper, but they are not one-handed openers. For a one handed opening knife with locking blade and a full flat grind and a four way clip and ambidextrous design - what is better value than this one?

I have only recently been learning to sharpen, but I have managed to get my Rat 1 to 'shaving sharp'. If the AUS-8 doesn't hold an edge for as long as the dearer steels then that just means more sharpening practice for me.

Satin is becoming quite rare now. Still a few on eBay, not as many as a few months back. Prices should be similar.

great value, solid lockup and good comfortable user. Really easy to clean and sharpen. It is worth twice what you are paying at least when you try to find a comparable knife elsewhere.
wish mine was non-serrated but I got mine for 18$ on ebay 2 years ago, can't complain.

Thanks for that link Gadgetaholic,

I've got one in my shopping cart along with the RC-3MIL. Waiting until tomorrow to pull the trigger though since I ordered an RC-3MiL from another shop which was closed until Monday. I need a confirmation from them.

BTW, the Izula Kit is going for about $13 less if you do a "best price XXXX" search for it. I'm glad that some companies are willing to make a little less to keep their customer base solid. I operate websites and I'd rather have 50 orders for less profit than 10 for a few dollars more. But that's just me. :)

But do they do international shipping? That is a 'must have' for where I live.
Also, are they reliable? Knife Center gets my orders out in less than 24 hours, they answer queries by E-Mail and they stock a great range.

One problem I have is that the shipping adds a lot to the cost of a knife, so I order several things at once - I will order some new DMT stones and the Izula in my next order to knife centre, there isn't much point in paying $13 less to get the Izula elsewhere and an extra $35 in shipping.

Dang 7? All the exactly the same or a mixture?

It's a mixture of coated and uncoated, combo edges and plain edges. I bought two of them one day then my friend gave me one after I saw a bunch of them at a local swap meet for $8.00 each so I had to stack up on them.
