Here's one: it's clunky and too thick for a general use knife.

Too thick? It's thinner than the other three knives mentioned in this thread. Just something to think about. Maybe check the weights before you make your final decision.

what would be a good weight? in also pretty new to backpacking properly before it was put what i can fit in my pack. run out of room? put it in someones elses or forget it and there wasnt much planning lol so what would be a proper wieght? or is there no really proper weight?

There really is no proper weight but consider that a spyderco delica weighs under 3oz. and that's all I took camping for years. IIRC a RAT RC-5 weighs close to a pound of steel. When I'm hiking the less weight the better. I'm always looking for ways to lighten my load and for what it weighs the RC-4 earns it's keep.

I see you already have a Fallkniven S1 which looks like a perfect hiking/camping knife. What do you want a larger blade for? If it's for firewood, I'd recommend a folding saw as a companion to your Fallkniven because it's much lighter and more efficient than a large blade for it's intended purpose. If you're just wanting a large knife then I understand. You'll just have to experiment with whichever knives work best for your type of camping.

yeah basicly i want a bigger one to do the things that my smaller one cant and yet be more felxible at things then a saw if thats even posible lol

I wouldn't want to carry the Fallkniven s1 and a larger blade unless it was way larger, like 7" or more. Now if you're leaving the s1 at home a 5"-7" blade would be fine as the main knife. Good luck deciding. Bottom line is try a few different approaches and see what works for you. That's half the fun.

An A1 for $50 bucks!

I'd be awfully tempted to take him up on that if you can swing it along with your other blade of choice.

Kevin

im almost tempted too, but it is missing about 3mm of its tip and there is a chip in about the middle of the cutting edge but it still works he says lol

No matter what else you may buy, take him up on that offer. You can fix those chips pretty easily with a DMT coarse diamond stone.
