Early next year maybe a good guess. I have a lot less problems on rat and in a yard than I do on blade. I am very happy that they have their own forums. I've never gotten a virus, worm or malicious attack from rat chat or at the yard I cannot say that from blade.
The irony in this statement is palpable. The chances that one of the 3 things you mentioned took down the chat is very high, but blade forums is still here, running along.
Irony aside, 2+ weeks of downtime in ridiculous and probably speaks to another problem, such as a lack of adequate backup. Now i see why they have the store and the forum hosted on separate domains.
I'm not thrash talking the swamp, i know how difficult it can be to set up and maintain these systems, but 2 weeks + of downtime shouldn't happen. I hope someone catches some heat over not having a good enough disaster recovery plan.
There are ways to deal with this sort of thing, but larger sites get hit and don't recover as well, I just don't want to see that happen to the Swamp. Fault tolerance and backup are different things, hopefully they had both in place, but it doesn't sound like they planned for whatever happened.
A good disaster recovery plan can be the difference between being in business or not for an internet based company. Bladeforums has served as a nice fail-over for the Swamp forum, but it still leaves a large block of content/knowledge unavailable, and interrupts continuity within the community. Even assuming all the posts are restored, there will still be people who become less involved because of the extended downtime.
Knowing about Bladefroums is great, but
there isn't even a place holder page telling people to come here. If i didn't already know, i'd have no clue what was going on. All you get when you click on the forum is a 404/page unavailable. That can't be good for business.
There is literally no mention of this site or of the outage on either Swamp Rat page that i have seen, that just blows my mind. This can't be good for the community or possible future customers. If you can't get the forum up, at least put a page in its place telling people it will be back soon, and to check here for info.
Just my 3 or 4 cents
