Day....

Naw, I'm looking forward to the swamp being back up.

Got number nine for the season! Decent 6 point behind the house. My dad went out at 3:00 in 30 mile per hour winds and climbed a tree waiting for a deer. I stumbled out the door at 10 to 5, climbed an old rickety 7 foot platform by 4:55. Shot my deer at 5:10--clean arrow through both lungs and the heart. Stumbled out of my tree at 5:20 when it was fairly dark. Walked 40 yards over to where he lay. Hiked out to find my dad who had seen nothing. Gutted the beast (the deer, not my dad), and came home for dinner by 6:15. I love my house.

Joshuaharman, where do live with such liberal limits? The limit is 6 in Louisiana and I have never killed more than 5 as it's more than we can possibly eat. I am not criticizing, just curious as I know some states are overrun with Deer. Now if I made Deer Jerky everyday, my kids could eat 9 No Problem!! Congrats on the great season your having! Edit, I see your in VA. Do you have over population issues there?

man, i made out like a bandit with blade scores this week. couple of sweet traditional folders and also finally scored a large-size bowie! wish we'd had a new SR offering ready to go for Christmas money but it's ok, my birthday is next month :D

Yessir, we are totally overrun in northern VA. We get 6 tags and then can buy as many bonus tags as we want. Season in the county I live/hunt in starts the first Saturday in September and runs through the last Saturday in March. Bag limit is 2 daily. No hunting on Sundays. If you were to do the math, it is conceivable you could take over 200 deer in one season if you were so inclined...

FYI, my dad scored a nice 5 point and we both shot at and missed the same giant 10 point...the kind that haunts your dreams and would score highly in any book...
 
Joshuaharman, Wow, that is wild. We don't have that kind of population where I live due to a certain user group I won't mention. We can hunt October 1 to January 18 in my area and Sunday's are fine too. 200 Deer!!!! I can't even wrap my head around those numbers. Sometimes the feral hog population can get high, but we can hammer them year around to keep them in check and they are great eating too. Congrats again on your very good season:thumbup:

Thanks. It's a bit wacky, but with most of the county being farmland 15 years ago and now turned to suburbs, the deer population has exploded and there are relatively few of us hunting (not that I mind). After about number 5 or so I start giving them away. It's surprising how many people like free venison ;) Wish we had feral hogs here too. Would be a nice change of pace.

coming up on New Year's Eve and i still don't have any 2011 novelty glasses :eek:
time to load up on goofy hats and glasses and sparkling booze before it's too late! today is the day to take care of business.
