I used a dremel moto tool with a small drum sanding bit. It cuts through the micarta pretty easy and fast. I could have done it a little more even and cleaner if I took my time but this is a work knife not a display knife so it's no big deal.

For what it's worth, you should wear a good resperator when working with composits such as micarta. The dust created by sanding is bad for your lungs and is a health hazard. Also work should be done in a well ventilated area.

This is my first attempt at homemade scales out of lime G10, next try will be in wood :D

Thanks for all the compliments guys. The scales look a lot more translucent in normal light, almost like they should glow in the dark :)

This photo shows a bit better how translucent the scales are. Flashlight is a Fenix P1D Q5 if anyone's wondering, awesome little light :D

This weekend I helped some friends with an annual pig cooking (affectionately referred to as Sausage Fest), and the RC3 was the first knife in my bag when I packed up my gear. Sorry about the quality. The lighting wasn't the greatest, and after the beverages I'd consumed I wasn't thinking clear enough to adjust the settings on the camera.

All of the tools that I brought with me:

I recently picked up a Buck Ergo Hunter sheath off the Bay for peanuts wondering if the RC-4 would fit in and yes it fits in perfectly and the extra bottom sheath fits the Izula perfect too! :D

Very, Very Nice DMD08! I just wish I was closer to mountains like that. You should check out the shelter building thread and enter the contest!
